Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Six Video's ideal for newbies on how to use some insert special controls functions

Keith Hubert asked in another thread if I would share some info on the power of using the powerful tools in the Grid Builder instead of using the freeform edit region.

The video's are developed keeping in-mind there are many new to Alpha that need to start, at the start, so the seasoned Alpha user may want to skip the early videos on fundamentals.

While these video's demonstrate the Containers and the Frame - there a many other things to experiment in this part of grid design.

I've only just made these for all on the forum - I don't edit my video's any more, it's all as we go, keeping in mind practice makes progress - and that's what we all want to achieve. - No time for perfection.

    Video 1

    Video 2

    Video 3

    Video 4

    Video 5

    Video 6 - Addendum. - Final result.

    Cheers, to all Pete.

PS: the Master class series is in review, I'm yet to decide about releasing it for general use. Contact me directly if you are interested and I'll keep your details at hand should I decide to release it.

          Pete,

Six great videos, many thanks for making and posting them on this forum.

You have a very smooth voice and demonstrate in a clear and controlled manner.

As a follow on demonstration, here is video on how to make the Invoice address fill with data from the Customer address by the click of a button.

These videos are awesome. Peter and Keith you did a great job to put these out and explain them so clearly!
I've been doing so much with free form, and now I'll be using them a lot less.

You are most welcome - after all, we are in this together. Keith, thanks for sharing - well explained, the advantage of that process over calculated fields is that if there is a small difference in the fields, say like the "Gate 12" in the address for shipping, then you can just add the difference to the values inherited from the billing address. Good work.

It seems so... while some have not left a message at this point over 40 people have view the set in full.

                              Thank you Peter!

Here's what I got out of it:

1 - If you use these tools instead of html in a Freeform, you can use additional controls, like that show/hide. I'll be using that in my grid almost immediately. Some of my home plans have a range of size, some don't. "1000-1000 sf" looks stupid. "1000-1200 sf" does not and "1000 sf" does not. I'm going for not looking stupid being a good thing.

2 - If you use these tools instead of html in a Freeform, your fields are visible. It just makes everything a little bit harder to constantly open those Freeforms to see what you left where.
