Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: fill fields grid using XBasic code

    Hi Kamel,

    See this thread, I posted a video to show exactly what you asked here.

    The only difference is that I am taking a value from one field and duplicating it to another.

      Re: fill fields grid using XBasic code

      thanks you Keith,,,

      but I'm already using function to upload file "uploadeCV" so I want to fill the field with the file name that was uploaded "fileName"
      Note the code:

      Code:
      function uploadeCV as v (e as p)

      dim fn as c
      dim fileName as c = e.fileArray[1].fileName
      dim data as b
      data = e.fileArray[1].data
      fn = "D:\MRTracking.WebProjects\Default.WebProject\uploaded_files\\" + e.fileArray[1].fileName
      file.From_blob(fn,data)

      end function

      function fill as c (e as p)

      	e._set.Cv_file.value = fileName

      end function
      Maybe I should to make the variable "fileName" is global or what ?!?

      thanks you...

        Re: fill fields grid using XBasic code

        There are a couple of problems with your setValue code...

        The Fieldname must be in uppercase
        I don't think the row number can be resolved the way it is.
        Depending on the event you're using row number may be available - check the notes in the event. For example, in OnExistingRowRender, e.rowNumber is available.
        You then need to concatenate your row number into the statement
        Finally, end your javascript with a semi-colon

        Code:
        e.javascript = "window.parent.{grid.object}.setValue('G','CV_FILE'," + e.rowNumber + ", 'any value' );"

            I need to do something similar. I want to prese2nt the user with a from that is pre-filled with values. I use dialogs for this, using the Initialize event with standard Xbasic. Is the technique above applicable to what I want to? Is there a v10 grid event equivalent to the dialog's Initialize event?

              Gary,

              Could you use a new record only grid with the initial value for each field filled in?

                  Create a "Enter record form" grid -see attached image...

                  New record grid.gif

                  Then fill in the "Initial value"parameter for each field.

                    Hi Peter,

                    I should have explained better. I want to fill in the fields using xbasic so that the initial values are dynamically determined by a session variable for example. Just like in a dialog using the Initiualize event. So if I want to present a form for customer john Doe with session.id=1234, then I can present the form with the customer's name, phone, address, etc already filled in.

                      I believe I found the event that I am looking for: OnInitialValueCalculate

                        Gary,

                        You don't even need to use the event if you want to populate using session vars. just put the session variable directly into the Initial value parameter.
