Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    ulink doesn't store a value.

    I've been trying to give a value to the external user id field like this:

    a5ws_save_webuser_values(CurrentForm)
    a5ws_get_webuser_values(CurrentForm)
    CurrentForm.Controls.Ulink.Value = alltrim(CurrentForm.Controls.Guid.Value)
    a5ws_save_webuser_values(CurrentForm)

    in the aftervalidate event in a dialog.

    The problem is that when I create the new user with the dialog, everything gets saved except the ulink. I know the guid has a value because it's in the mysql table. I've tried about a dozen diferent ways to assign the value to ulink but it never works.

    Please help. I know it's something simple that I've overlooked but I'm blind to it.

    Your code doesn't make sense. Not even sure what you are trying to do. Are you saying that you have a ulink value (that you assign in the dialog), that you want to save back to A5 security?

    Here are a few links that might help (maybe):

      Try this:
      Code:
      dim UserValue as p
      UserValue.Ulink = alltrim(CurrentForm.Controls.Guid.Value)
      a5ws_save_webuser_values(CurrentForm,UserValue)
      Edit: You don't need the first two lines of yours, your code is saving, getting, adding, saving. All you really need is adding and saving.

        Re: ulink doesn't store a value.

        See if my logic is correct

        a5ws_save_webuser_values(CurrentForm) 'when I do this the guid is created
        a5ws_get_webuser_values(CurrentForm) ' this is so I can get the guid that's just been assigned
        dim UserValue as p
        UserValue.Ulink = alltrim(CurrentForm.Controls.Guid.Value) 'this is where I set the ulink value
        a5ws_save_webuser_values(CurrentForm,UserValue) ' this writes it to the security files

        After I create a user this is what I get

          Check to see if your guid.value actually has a value at the time your code above is running. I think it is blank. Security Framework generates the guid as it saves the user record.

          The ulink is typically not the same as the guid, but I guess you could use that value if you want. The way you are doing it you do have to have dialog fields named ulink and guid, that is what "currentform" refers to.

          Instead of a dialog field for ulink, I use this syntax (this is only a small snip of the full code):

          vid = remspecial(api_uuidcreate())
          'then I use vid to create the ID for my users table
          dim uservalue as p
          uservalue.ulink = vid
          a5ws_save_webuser_values(currenform,uservalue)

            Re: ulink doesn't store a value.

            Thanks Steve, I know the guid has a value because I store it in a Mysql table.

            conn.open("::Name::godaddy")
            conn.PortableSQLEnabled = .t.

            args.add("UserID",CurrentForm.Controls.UserID.Value)
            args.add("FamilyName",CurrentForm.Controls.Familyname.Value)
            args.add("eMail",CurrentForm.Controls.eMail.Value)
            args.add("Guid",alltrim(CurrentForm.Controls.Guid.Value))
            args.add("StartDate",dtoc(date(),"1/"))

            sqlStatement = "INSERT INTO Family (UserID, FamilyName, Guid, eMail, startDate) VALUES (:UserID, :FamilyName, :Guid, :eMail, :Startdate)"
            conn.execute(sqlStatement,args)

            And it does exist in the table and session.__protected__ulink has the quid value so everything performs perfectly when you create the user. It only fails when I log in later. By the way I'm using your captcha in the create user routine and it works great. Good job.

              OK, I figured it out. Once you have saved the webuser values for the ulink field you cannot change it. I'm not sure if it does that for all the webuser values or just the ulink field. Anyway it works now. Thanks for all your advice.

                Hhhmmm... that's not what I get. I am able to change an existing ulink value with this test code in the I.E.:

                Code:
                dim output as p
                dim uservalue as p
                UserValue.ulink = "xxx"
                UserValue.guid = "0fc90c071dff4c7587806ee8da3427b6"
                a5ws_save_webuser_values(output,uservalue)
                Not that you would typically want to change the unlink value, but...

                  Re: ulink doesn't store a value.

                  Again, guid and ulink are two different things. You cannot change the guid of an existing user, not using Alpha's security functions anyway. The guid belongs to Alpha's security system. If you try to change it using a5ws_save_webuser_values() it probably won't do anything because it cannot find a user with that modified guid. Like I said, normally you don't make the ulink the same value as the guid just because they really are separate things and there is no reason to keep them in sync. I use remspecial(api__uuidcreate()) to generate a new ulink value.
