Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

rtc.rowData[] subelement not found. - SOLUTION

    Hi,

Since my conviction is that sharing information is important. Hereby a lesson that I've learned. I have a view. A view doesn't have primary keys. You MUST set these manually. When you change something in the
query definition the primary keys previously set disappear. You must set them again (over and over again). If you don't do this you may find you'll be banging your head to the wall over the following error.

    [Sun Aug 14 13:46:12 2011] [Internal Server Error] (D:\A5Webroot\__a5RunGrid.a5w) "Script Error: Error:Script: /__a5RunGrid.a5w line:35 x_out = a5_ajax_grid(tmpl) Property not found
    rtc.rowData[] subelement not found."

Lesson learned.... SET THE PRIMARY KEYS IN THE VIEW !!!!

    Cheers
    Steven

Re: rtc.rowData[] subelement not found. - SOLUTION

    Steven,

This is a good point and very easy to miss, especially since 99 times out of 100 the change to the view has nothing to do with the primary key that you have previously set. There is really no reason why Alpha changes the setting...they should just leave it and let us change the primary key when we know we need to.

I put this on the wish list, but someone else said it had been fixed, so it has not received any votes.

okay, I have been banging my head. I'm having problems with RTC. pagecount not found, but I also get this error message.

When you say "set the primary keys in the view", which view are you referring?

I have linked grids, I'm updating the child grids, each of which then do a query.udpate() command on the parent grid matching record.

ONE of the child grids does this just fine.
The other child grid is NOT updating the parent.

They both have the EXACT same code, just are updating different tables.

The parent, under Grid>Query Define Primary Keys, does have the primary key defined.

I have been banging my head for over a week on this, it seemed to be working fine previously.

Re: rtc.rowData[] subelement not found. - SOLUTION

        kimhere,

Usually when I have that error it is because I changed a field in a table or changed a view and needed to delete then reconnect the linking field in the child grid. I would refresh all of the queries and delete and reconnect all of the linking fields. I hope that helps.

Thank you for such a quick response. I will give that a try as I have tried everything I can possibly think of and republished umpteen million times.

I'll let you know if it works, thanks! kim

Re: rtc.rowData[] subelement not found. - SOLUTION

Frank, thank you, the RTC.pagecount error seems to have gone away.

However, the problem updating the parent grid still exists.
            One child updates,
the other does not (though I'm not getting any error messages).

Both have EXACTLY the same code, which is why I'm so stumped with this.
The only different is that each child accesses a different table's data to update the parent, but the fields and variables and everything is identical other than the tablename for the child.

I am running this from a tabbed UI, but I don't think that should have any impact since one does work.

            STUMPED AND FRUSTRATED..... Kim

              Kim,

You will have to provide more information before anyone could help you resolve that issue.

Re: rtc.rowData[] subelement not found. - SOLUTION

Thank you Frank. AFter much work and headache, I have found the only differences in the 2 CHILD grids code, each of which update the same parent table, with ALMOST identical code, using the <tbl>.update() command.

The only difference in the 1 child code that is NOT working on the Web application (both work in Live & Working Previews) is this statement:

                A5_GET_RECORDS_IN_QUERY(). The actual statement is:

                Is_PCP = if(a5_get_records_in_query("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\members_offices_held","member_id=" + quote(ccmember_id) + ".and. office_abrev="+ quote("PCP"))>0,"Y","N") ' [NOTE: Is_pcp is DIM C="N"]

When I comment this out, the <tbl>.update() command works.

However, this exact statement works in BOTH the Working Preview and the LIVE preview.
Does anyone have any ideas why it does not work on the server application?

I looked back on the A5 Software Help, and there is no "limitation" to Desktop, as I had expected. Is there a glitch?
