Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    image displaying in empty field

I have a grid with an image reference field. If there's no image selected, it's displaying the image from the first record. I've tried doing a show/hide, which doesn't correct it.

Does anybody have any suggestions? When my builders use this grid to manage their galleries, it's putting their knickers in knots something wicked to be looking at another builder's house!

This is probably because it is showing the first of all the pictures if there is no selection. So, one idea is to create a picture which is just the words "Photo Not Available" or some such, and place that as the default picture. Then there will always be a selection.

Thanks. It is indeed the first record. Yeah - I was just starting to go down that road when I saw this, was just making a lovely blank white photo record. It does seem kinda wrong that it does this, like the dreaded "b" word. But, I'm too new to be sure I'm not doing something wrong, so I hesitate to send it in.

Boy - this is driving me right up a tree!

It just wants to display that one image, no matter what. I changed my first record to display an all white jpeg. I make a new record, and it's displaying that same photo again! What kind of bugging, debugging or deforestation tool might I use to find out why it's doing that? Firebug tells me it's getting that image from the Session Folder, but not why.

And/or - what syntax might I use in a show/hide when I have an image path statement? What I tried (first post) didn't work.

I have to have the Path Alias, can't leave the image path blank, because I can't get Image Upload to save image with a Path Alias (having heard the sound of crickets in my thread about that, and failed miserably with every conceivable combination for "stored filename transformation", I've submitted that as a bug, but I'm not sure I can express the problem clearly enough...), only as a fully qualified path - so I'm using Short Filename there and putting the path in the grid.

Big Sigh - I feel like every where I turn with this I hit a brick wall. Right now I cannot launch this segment with all my builders looking at that image. It's not only not their house, but it was built by the one builder they all perceive as being the "favored child".

Any ideas are very very very much appreciated.

Well - I solved the new record issue - "DOH" - had it set to link via Gallery Name and there were TWO by the same name. Dumb mistake.

But - still stuck with it displaying that one stubborn image in any and all empty image fields. And - the image in that field in the first record is now an all white jpeg. Love to hear any other ideas.... I need my hair!

            Wendy,

Have you tried Image > '' as your show/hide expression, where Image refers to your text field ?

Yep. I finally figured out that I could make the first photo record a blank white image (photos are in a lookup) so it's now showing that blank white image. It's a workaround, but it works until I can determine if it's the "b" word - and if so, "b" in the software or "b" in my brain!
