Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Word wrap on an xdialog button

Thanks Ted - I suppose the 'task' porcess in based on the the fact (in my case) you turn up to work, then you may leave for a short perid to do something else, but you should alays clock off from work. You have have identified a hole in my buttons. I need to add the ability to add tasks. I build the dialog dynamically so this is simply a new button.

Also I do have a function in other apps to deal with mac, mc, O'Rielly etc, so I will add it to the application. Interestingly I do not deal withthe "-"

      Another suggestion Mark.
I developed an app for a Council Social Club for youngsters a good time ago.
It handled their demographics, attendances and a moneybox where they could save for club trips.
However, one of the most important items was the Fire List. In the event of a fire or building evacuation, a single click would display and print - to several printers dotted about (pre e-mail on Blackberry) - the Fire List.
The list was intended to be used to make sure that everyone was present and the building empty.

Trouble was that the little darlings didn't always book in or out.
The next part of the dev was to have Swipe Cards so no card, door didn't open.

Have you considered having swipe card access/egress?
One of the sites I work on has a token on a belt tag which triggers without a Swipe operation. Being close to the receiver by the door is good enough.
It also only opens doors where you are allowed to go! Sometime you can look a bit of a muppet swinging your hips at a door post - but what the heck!

Apologies to anyone I haven't managed to upset yet.
You are held in a queue and I will get to you soon.

Re: Word wrap on an xdialog button

This is very accomplished, it appears to be suited for unattended access control monitoring. If that's so then its close to ready, just maybe;-
        - fix non-display of on-site visitors clocked in (shows on the report though) and provide guest check-out.
        - The "clock on/off" button clocks ON, "Task" button clocks OFF.
        - Check to stop a person logging on again

        To extend the purpose - and functionality -I would very humbly suggest ;;;
        - make that Clock-on screen the main visitor/staff interface for clocking in and out. Control exit from that to do system maintenance.
        - have the staff buttons indicate (color or text) who is clocked in, press again for out. Add a visitor button. And if the dynamics allow, possibly add a new button for each visitor on-site.

And, if that screen auto-refreshed periodically, then the same app, running passively on a viewing screen elsewhere would display at a glance - for example who is on, or accessing the premises.
You could extend that to what Ted is eluding to, time-job-type tracking, whatever else the client could make use of.http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...ons/icon14.png

Re: Word wrap on an xdialog button

Thanks everyone - some good ideas. It is only a simply access tracking system as we do not have any reception. Small site of 15. I have no need for time cards etc on this one. Did build a similar one for a motor vehicle workshop that did that as well track repair time on jobs. This one was a bit of a play, the one I originally built used barcode scanning (you may see some old codes that captured keystokes). As I can get a touchscreen pretty cheap now, I thought I would look at it. My laptop is touchscreen so I can test easilly.

Some of your feedback prompts the following responses

The task button is designed to select from a standard list of offsite tasks. Things that take staff away from the site for a short duration. So it actually clocks the person off and puts them into the task box. You can only go on task if you have actually clocked on. The process for clocking back on is to simply double tap the task box and select your name. Takes you off task and clocks you back into the site.

The clock on allows you to select your name. If you are clocked on your name should no longer appear as a button, so the buttons reduce in number. This actually help my visually impaired older guys (that includes me now -something about age and not listening to my mother about too much makes you go blind).

To clockoff anyone, staff visitor etc is simply a double tap on the relavent list

It prints to a printer on the network that is considered less compromised in an emergency. Guess I could play with email as well

All I want this for is actaully to enhance site safety. When we do our evac drills a record of attendance is kept which can analysed for those who need extra opportunity to particapte as they were not there. By default it does keep my team more honest, although I don't track the coffee or smoke break. (would be embarrassing for some)

            xdemo.zip

For those interested I have updated this. Completely changed the listviews to get rid of a refresh problem. I have done testing on a few touchscreens and all workks fine.

Note if you push the print button, it also sends an email based on the A5 default profile. Be careful as it will send it to me as it is harded in the email1 code
