Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How can I explicitly set a linked grid's name

    I have a linked grid content in the fields on a grid. That linked grid has a submit button, as does the "parent" grid.
    I would like to have only one submit button on the parent grid which saves both the parent and the linked grid content.
    I keep publishing the grid, and by using Firebug, I see the name of the linked grid keeps changing. I have:

    GRID1_PRO_DETAIL_FOOF_P1_R1_GridObj.submitGridPart();
    (which I got from Firebug)
    on the AfterGridSubmit event of the system properties, but when I publish the grid, the grid name changes to something like:

    GRID1_PRO_DETAIL_IDSK_P1_R1_GridObj.submitGridPart();
    and if I change the AfterGridSubmit part to match that, and publish again, the grid name changes.
    It is like trying to hit a moving target that is impossible to hit.
    Can I explicitly name the grid in order to prevent the name from changing, or am I missing something simple that can just be fixed with a dope slap?
    Thanks.

    Re: How can I explicitly set a linked grid's name

    I got no responses to this question, but solved the problem with the help of Steve Workings.
    I surrounded the submit button on the inline grid with a span, gave it an id, and removed the text from the submit button, like this:

    <span id=subButton></span>

    This makes the submit button on the grid almost imperceptible.
    I than put this code on the AfterGridSubmit part of the main grid:
    $('subButton').click();

    and when I hit the submit button on the main grid, it acts as if I am pushing the submit button on the inline grid.
    Problem solved; thanks, Steve.

      Jay - you can completely hide the button by wrapping the span tag in a div and use the visibility or display style tag:

      <div style="visibility:hidden;"><span id=subButton></span></div> (takes up the same layout space)
      or
      <div style="display:none;"><span id=subButton></span></div> (does not take up space in layout)

        Thanks, Jim. That works great.
        Now for the next issue.
        Here is what the grids look like:
        order_screen.jpg

        Since I want one submit button for both grids, I need a way to re-activate the submit button when the inline grid is dirty.
        I have tried placing the name of the parent grid into a variable, and then using that variable to make the parent grid dirty again.
        Here's what I have so far.
        When the grids load, the parent grid is made dirty with a javascript system event: {grid.object}._setRowState(1,true); (works fine)
        Upon submitting the parent grid, the name of the parent grid is placed into a variable: myParentGrid= {Grid.object}.gridId; (works fine)
        I placed a button on the inline grid to see if I can get the parent grid dirty. The contents of the button are: alert(myParentGrid); (works find, showing the name of the grid)
        myParentGrid._setRowState(1,true); (does NOT set the parent grid dirty)

        What am I missing?
        Thanks,
        Jay
