Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    A5 Not Responding??

We've been experiencing this problem since last week: I can open A5, but when I click on the folder to open the database in quesion, it just goes to a "Not Responding" state and freezes. Has anyone experienced such problem before??? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

    Re: A5 Not Responding??

Did you add coding to the autoexec or the oninit event of the startup form?

Hold down the Shift and Ctrl keys as you start the database to bypass both.
    There can be only one.

      Thanks Stan,
No coding added as far as I know... and I did try S + C, but it still goes to not reposnding :(
I was thinking maybe to uninstall and reinstall the software?? We have the Desktop application (installed on my computer) with the Runtime bundle. Can the software be installed on the server instead of my PC and everyone get access to it??
      thanks for your help!

Not recommended. The runtime should be installed on each user's machine and the database opened on the server.

        Rereading your post...

Did you mean "when I click on the database to open"? Choosing a database to open vs choosing a folder to open would be different things.

Yes, the tuntime is installed on each user's computer. I was concerned about installing the software on PC (hard drive) vs server.

I mean't database which opns my main menu of the database

I'm going to make a guess that you are running Win7 or Vista. If so, the "Not Responding" message is probably in the Title Bar of the window and is a problem with the OS. How to fix it? I don't know. I followed dozens of threads on this problem when I started to experience it and finally just gave in to reinstalling Windows. So if this is the problem you are experiencing, I'll bet it's your OS and I would try Google to find some of the fixes and try them.

              Get everyone off the system.
Try putting an Icon on the Desktop which points at the Alpha launch document for the database you want.
(The one with the Alpha Logo unless you changed it.)
Right click and Run as Administrator.
              If using Win7 check compatability.
Export the whole Database to a working Dev version of Alpha - ideally not on a Server and under your direct control - Backup, Rebuild Indices, Close all windows, Compact Database.
              Retry.

Apologies to anyone I haven't managed to upset yet.
You are held in a queue and I will get to you soon.
