Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    changing to A5 default printer

    Hello

When on an invoice form, I click FILE at the top of program........then "Print/Send Selected Records"
Print Layout Genie opens......I click on Report, then "email" or sometimes "Save to file" .....
then I choose "invoice"........... Next...............then "current record only" ......... Next...... Finish ....

I usually get popup box that that says "Invoice to AlphaFivePrinterV4 on initializing.................
Then a popup Activation Error box that says Printer not activated, error code-30

In the past I could save invoices to a file or send them via email..........Not now
In the control panel Printer Setup I have form for invoice set to Samsung ( my default printer).....the report is set to
Samsung....... the control panel is set to Samsung

I wonder if some script is set to AlphaFivePrinterV4......how would I find script that is tied to Print Genie (if so) and change it

    Please HELP.

    Bob, couple of things.
    1) what have you changed PC wise. Have you upgraded to Win7. Is this app an older one?
    2) Look at Print Preview. Can you save the document from here?
    3) Go into Designer. Select Form, Form Properties, Printer. What do you see?
    4) Is it possible to send a copy of the Table and Form for us to look at and try on our PC's?

Went to Win7 over a year ago......ability to save file or send email with file has worked until a week ago.
            Can not save from preview
Going into designer for either the form or report it is set for my Samsung Printer ( the printer that does all
            in Alpha)

The invoice form "calls" an invoice report that is then sent or saved or printed.

Re: changing to A5 default printer

There have been some Win7 updates which have overwritten some of my stuff and caused probs.

"When on an invoice form, I click FILE at the top of program........then "Print/Send Selected Records"
This isn't Calling a Report, it is printing the Form.

              Try rerunning as Administrator Mode.

Drop a copy here and see who can analyse and come up with an answer.

Re: changing to A5 default printer

Printer was alpha5 printer so changed to my preferred Samsung printer. I also learned that a quirk I changed the printer setup in the control panel by highlighting
my form and then clicking design in toolbar up above, then as you said above. I also had to change it when form opened by clicking design and repeating (outside
of control panel). I then did the same for the report that is actually what is printed. Nothing fixed and alpha keeps changing my print setup from what i set
(samsung) to alphafive printer. Then I fixed it.

I went into Win7 control panel.....devices and printers. RIght clicked on Alphafive printer and removed it . Then I tried printing a report .....wouldn't print......
turned off Alpha5 and restarted it....Bingo.....everything printed and I can now send emails with pdf's and "save files" to my computer. So apparently
A5 will create new A5 printer when it starts if there is not one. I now have Alphafive printer in my WIN7 "Devices and Printers" folder again but all is working.

THANKS to Ted and Stan for keeping me going on this. I was ready to give up and send to Tom Cone, who I have found to be the Alpha5 problem solver bada$$ when he gets it in his hands.

                    Thanks Again,
                    Bobby

Another quick way to go to a particular post and not the whole page is by highlighting the post number and right click to copy it as a shortcut, add the descptive text to your post, highlight it and click the URL button to paste the shortcut.
