Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    wishlist

Not sure who had the idea of ideascale the wishlist. I for one was happy with the old one. Ideascale appears very unstable. IE loses it and this has been going on for some time. I have tried it on several computers from different locations with the same result.

Can anyone point me to a way to stabilize it or is it being fixed?????

    Re: wishlist

You're right - it blows up in I.E. Boy that is weird! It works fine in FF though.

If you look at the old wishlist, you'll find the culprit. I was satisfied with the old one myself, but...

Yeah, I only use IE because almost all my clients do. I have also not found a solid reason to go with anything else.

        Re: wishlist

Could you please be more specific than "loses it" and "blows up"? I just tried it in IE and did not have any problems. We do not have direct control over the software, but I would like to contact Ideascale on your behalf to help get this straightened out.

Alternatively, you can interact with Ideascale support direct at http://support.ideascale.com/

          Re: wishlist

It dissappears(usually when pressing a tab button-but not always-and sometimes when not pressing anything). I get a message box saying it is trying to recover the web site and sometimes it does and sometimes it does not.

I particularly do not like the site being taken away from here! It was not necessary and simply the whim of a few. I think the numbers show that.

              Re: wishlist

Ideascale has admitted they have a problem with running in IE8. Suggested I play with my settings or switch to some other app to get to the web like Firefox. For others with the problem, you can get there in compatibility mode.

              I have the email!

Actually Dave, based on their email that you posted to Ideascale, it looks like they are suggesting that it is the Ideascale settings for Alpha Software specifically that are causing the problem. Could you please forward me Rakhesh's contact information so I can try to find out what setting we may need to change?

                  Hi Lenny,
This should be all of it that I have. Good Luck.
Reminder: I can run it in compatibility mode now.

I have emailed Rakesh and I will keep you posted. If they cannot help us resolve this, we will look into alternative wishlists.

Unfortunately, they will resolve this. I woukld be happier if it were back on this forum, but glad I could help either way.

Have to agree with Dave - why jump to another site?

And yes I just managed to get it to work in IE8. And I hate it when people suggest to use another browser - if you got a guy to build you a garage and you found that your car wouldn't fit through the door - what would you think when if he said to buy a different car!!

IE is the standard corporate browser worldwide - and will remain so. We need to live with that

                          Re: wishlist

                          Hi Richard,

On browsers: Most of my customers are on IE of some version or the other and ALL of them have it available. If I were building ANYTHING for the web, it would be be IE compatible and the others(firefox, etc) need to be able to run the app if they can. My customers would definitely be able to.

I have actually had people come buy a car from me because their old one was 6"(+-) too long to fit the garage. It generally cost them 10,000-20,000 to get a shorter car with less features and ride comfort.

Question: How much does it cost to make the garage a foot longer? Probably, not a lot more than that and you have the benefit of always being able buying the car you really want.
