Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Embedded Browses on Tabbed Form

    Sorry Ron, not used QB but there are threads in the Forum about the data transfer and connecting with QB through Alpha.
    Glad it's all going so well.
    If you need any testing assistance (formal as in script based or otherwise) please holler.
    While I'm at it, it might help in the future when you have to carry out changes if you have a formal way of carrying out tests. And guess what? I have just the app. Let me know if you want it.

      I could not figure out how to send this Project to you. I have installed this Project 3 times on my clients m/c and it falls over in the program ORDERSAMALGATE at line 109 with "Table not Open". I have copied it to my other m/c and no problems. Go into the Orders Form and press the Button Orders Report then click exit preview twice.

        Re: Embedded Browses on Tabbed Form

        I unzipped it Ron and it works this end.

        Did you mean to do this?
        :Report.Preview("Orders",query.filter)
        :Report.Preview("OrdersRpt",query.filter) This is a Production Report.
        It went wrong when I opened it with V9, works fine in V10.5

        On the Client M/c, suggest you check that the Alpha versions are the same.
        All versions need to be the same Build Number.

        Question.
        Are you distributing this as a Runtime, or has the user got a development copy of Alpha?

        BTW. I'm running a Win7 64bit 8gig P5 with a SSD handling the A5V10.5 engine. The Reports you have the data to create take about 4 seconds. With this spec it should be almost instant, so there is a processing logic issue somewhere I suspect.

          Ted
          Thank you for doing that, I thought I had reached purple level on the 'Barking Scale'. The Client has a full Development Version that is more recent than my copy, but I will check the relevant build numbers. What is wrong with :-

            Did you mean to Preview the orders and the prroduction report at the same time?
            I thought that was the problem you were pointing out - having to exit preview twice.

            The build difference might well be the problem.

              Hi Ron,
              I've been playing with your data and needed the BOM table again - but now your attachment is not working - could you refresh the zip?

              Edit: Nevermind! Good ole WinZip saved it - thanks anyway.

                  But I didn't tell Winzip to save it I just opened the zip and extracted the files. Then it occurred to me that there just might be a temporary file left somewhere...

                    I think you will find that the zip file persists after the extract is run in any event.

                      Dave
                      Do you have any suggestions regarding setting color of the button selected?
                      I havent yet found a way. It is just not always clear which (conditional) object is currently visible

                        Hi Ray,
                        I change my button images to display different 'pages' of a conditional object
                        I paste this script into each of the buttons, changing the bitmap for the 'active' button and the value of the variable that displays each page.

                        if parent.mode_get()<> "VIEW" then
                        parent.commit()
                        end if
                        dim shared vtab_btn as c
                        vtab_btn = "data" 'this is the variable that sets the conditional page to view which the buttons change
                        cond2.Refresh()
                        b_data.default.hbitmap.bmptag = "$$generic.orb.green.small" 'the active button
                        this.refresh()
                        b_wage.default.hbitmap.bmptag = "$$generic.orb.blue.small"
                        b_wage.refresh()

                          Hi Robin
                          That is a great idea.
                          I have meantime setup so that the condition screens each have a duplicate set of buttons - to mimic tabs, and change the active button on each to transparentno border.
                          Creates this effect./MIMTABS.JPG
                          This topic really warrants a thread of its own.
                          Regards
