Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Action button fails after running 11 times

I have a button within a form in one of my A5v10 dbs that when pressed, runs a series of actions including update and append operations specific to the current record in view. Once the actions have been completed, the record is taken out the view and the next record is presented for me to run the button again on that record.

However, after successfully running the button's actions on 11 records, the 12th record brings up a script error (see attached image). This happens every time on the 12th record, no matter whihc record I start from. Although the attached error seems to point to the update operation, when I take that out, it falls over at the next operation on the list. The code obviously works as it applies successfully to the first 11 records so I am at a loss as to where the error is coming from.

Has anyone experienced any issues with a series of actions running fine for a number of records and then falling over after a specific number of times ran?

Any help is much appreciated. I would post the code used, however as mentioned it runs fine for the first 11 times and then falls over so I it does work.

    Thanks in advance.

There are limits on the number of times certain code can run without dropping queries, etc.

    I would post the code
    Please do.
    There can be only one.

      Stan,

Thanks for your response. I was unaware of your first point. Interesting.

Secondly, the code for the button is attached. The update operation set's field values to a table based on varaibles and values within the form.

I don't see anything obvious but your code calls two saved scripts.

        script_play_local("Set_Cat_Vars")
        script_play_local("Update_Code_3")

Do you have two instances of the Wlmnew_id field on the form? In one line the object name Wlmnew_id appears

        vc_wlmnew_id = parentform:Wlmnew_id.value

in the other it is Wlmnew_id0

        parentform:Wlmnew_id0.value = expression_result

It is possible to have the same field on a form twice and Alpha will by default name them as seen here.
        There can be only one.

The form is based on a set and the ref to wlmnew_id is a field in the main table with wlmnew_id0 being the same field from another table. Alpha has renamed the field as there are two sitting in the form.

The 'set_cat_vars' script sets all the local variables back to blank. When I take this out, the error doesn't seem to happen. Only thing is that the radio button checklist on the form now doesn't reset back to no item being checked since the variable is not being reset.

I am wondering ... given wlmnew_id0 may in some way be treated as _id0, _id1, ...._id9, on # 11 the id would go to _id10, which would incrase the field length by one and mess up the logic. Not sure how to fix, but this is just a thought. I am guessing that wlmnew_id is your linking field and can't be removed from the second table.

Uh, Is the update operation adding a query? It seems to say that in the error. Don't you have to destroy querries because they stop at a certain number of runs? I just came into this, so may be way off base.

No, the update operation is not adding a query. The update operation runs on the current record and updates field values i.e. with the staff username, date, etc.
