Default Desktop Code tab - convert library to a filesystem directory

Has anyone used the feature named in the title here? I can't figure it out.

I use the Code tab, of course, to create UDFs for the web, and roll them into an .AEX.

But the Code tab only allows UDFs with names of 24 characters or less, and I'd like to be using some longer more descriptive names for my functions. So I'm hoping that by somehow using an external library, then being able to roll all that into an AEX, I can achieve what I want.

Anyone know how to use this?

First, UDFs themselves are not limited to 24 characters, but the stored label is. This means you can create a function such as
    Code:
    function ThisIsSomeReallyReallyLongFunctionNameForSteveWorkings as v ()
    	'do something
    end function
and when you save it, the save dialog will show a shortened name, and that shortened name will also be reflected in the control panel. Your function itself has NOT been truncated though and would still be used as ThisIsSomeReallyReallyLongFunctionNameForSteveWorkings().

By using a V11 Filesystem dictionary, each script and UDF is stored as an individual file, so the label is now a filename instead of a field in a table, and the 24 character limitation is no longer in place. When you create and save the same UDF, the save dialog will not truncate the name.

The specifics of converting are documented at http://wiki.alphasoftware.com/Workin...on+Control+V11

Thanks Lenny. I hadn't realized this was a V11 feature, not in V10. Someone pointed me to this but now I know why I couldn't find out what I need.

This is going to be very very useful.
