Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    HTML Date Format

    Hopefully this is a simple question. I tried searching for HTML Date format but get stuff I don't need.
    If you look at this edit combo drop down field, you can see that my dates are including the time and I don't want that: http://screencast.com/t/mAEtZHtN

    Here's the display template for that edit combo lookup. What would you do to format the GL_DATE as a date like 10/14/2011 ?

    Code:
    <!--TitleSectionStart-->
    <table>
    <tr>
    <td style="width: 1in; font-weight: bold;">Dep Date</td>
    <td style="width: 1in; font-weight: bold;">Deposit ID</td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    <!--TitleSectionEnd-->
    <!--BodySectionStart-->
    <table>
    <tr>
    <td style="width: 1in;">{GL_DATE}</td>
    <td style="width: 1in;">{GL_DOCUMENT}</td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    <!--BodySectionEnd-->

      Re: HTML Date Format

      Hi Carol,

      just tried to recreate and my SQL date fields are obviously with the time element, created a lookup on the date in the search and I just get the date part.

      In properties for the grid I have set (under miscellaneous) date format to dd/mm/yyyy (being from the UK), you could set it to mm/dd/yyyy and hopefully that will work

        Re: HTML Date Format

        Thanks, Lance. I already have that set in the properties as mm/dd/yy and in all time pickers for fields. I think my problem could be that the lookup is not really for the date, and returns the GL_DOCUMENT. I wanted to list the GL_DOCUMENT in descending date order so the most recent GL_DOCUMENTs would be at the top of the list. So maybe it's not picking up the formattting? So, still wondering what the HTML code is to format a date so I could hard code it in. Like, how would you format a date if you just read a date on a web page and display it?

                Let your database do the work...
                for eg, in SQL:

                select
                getdate() as UnconvertedDateTime
                ,cast(getDate() as nvarchar(30)) as UsingCast
                ,Convert(nvarchar(30), getdate(),101) as UsingConvertTo101
                ,Convert(nvarchar(30), getdate(),102) as UsingConvertTo102
                ,Convert(nvarchar(30), getdate(),103) as UsingConvertTo103
                ,Convert(nvarchar(30), getdate(),104) as UsingConvertTo104
                ,Convert(nvarchar(30), getdate(),107) as UsingConvertTo107

                The one you want is: Convert(nvarchar(30), getdate(),101) as UsingConvertTo101

                The others are shown for demonstration purposes

                    just wants to make it easier for ppl who are facing same issue .
                    so formating the date is easy after all , we have to define it in group header properties . by typing the following codes all you have to do is change (birthday) to ur field name and it will work :

                    <tr>
                    <td class="[class.gridDataHeader]" colspan="{systemcolumnCount}">&nbsp;</td>
                    <td class="[class.gridDataHeader]" colspan="100" >
                    <div>
                    <script type="text/javascript">
                    var d=new Date("{your_Field_Name_Here}") \\\\ this for year
                    var monthname=new Array("Jan","Feb","Mar","Apr","May","Jun","Jul","Aug","Sep","Oct","Nov","Dec")\\\\ for month
                    document.write(monthname[d.getMonth()] + " ") \\\\ this for month

                    document.write(d.getFullYear())
                    </script>
                    </div>
                    :

                    in my case i needed to get the year of my date so check attachment to see where to place the code
