Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

You may need to wait a few days for your Order list to come through.

All the Licence numbers will be listed there, check with sales.

Charting is part of the base product it is not a feature pack

if you check out the videos here http://news.alphasoftware.com/v11preview/videos_v11.htm

you will find a number of charting.

          More videos are coming

I've gone through but I do not see a Chart component.
Is it a dropdown from Xdialog? I have Image Gallery, Calendar, Google, Video player, but no Chart component?

              Reporting
              Number Category Description
R1 Reports - Embedded Charts This video shows how charts can be embedded into an Alpha Five report.

              Watch Video - Part 1
R2 Reports - Adding a Chart to the Sample Invoice Report In Video R1 we showed how you can add a chart to a report. In that video, the data source for the chart was set to 'Table'. In this video we show how a chart can be added to the sample 'Invoice' report in the sample 'AlphaSports' application that ships with Alpha Five.

In this video, the data source for the chart is set to 'Report', which means that the data used in the report is used for the chart, rather than a separate query. By setting the data source to 'Report' the chart can use all of the calculated fields and summary fields that the report calculates.

              Desktop Applications
              Number Category Description
DT1 Layout Editors - Control Libraries When you are editing a Layout (e.g. Form, Report, etc.), you can select one or more controls and then place them in a 'Control Library' on the Toolbox. Controls in the Control Library can be placed on any Layout.

This video shows how you can add controls to the Control Library, and then use controls that you previously added to the Control Library.

              Watch Video
DT2 Layout Editors - Embedded Charts Alpha Five V11 introduces a powerful charting engine. Charts can be used in Form, Reports, Labels, Letters, Xdialogs, and Web Components.

This video shows how a chart can be embedded into a form.

              Watch Video - Part 1
              Watch Video - Part 2
DT3 Charts - Xdialog Examples The charting features in V11 can be used in Xdialogs. The following video show how you can embed custom charts in your own Xdialogs.

              Watch Video
The Xdialogs shown in the above video are all in the sample 'Learning Xdialog' database that ships with V11. Since there are many example scripts in 'Learning Xdialog' that would be useful to have quick access to, regardless of which database you are working in, we show in this video how you can easily create a Code Library from the examples in 'Learning Xdialog'.

Re: New Chart Component - web apps

Ok I am inferring from this that I need to create a Xdialog and then use what to insert into a web component.
Am I to use the Customer Component?
I started looking at the demos but nothing except the Learning XDialog seems to be new.
The Demos are great starting points for learning.

Oooops, I seem to have made a mistake with regarding the new Chart Component. I seem to have confused it with something else.

                  Please ignore my earlier post.

Re: New Chart Component - web apps

There is a section of videos on Customer components. The example is a graph - pie chart.
This would be great as a demo database

Re: New Chart Component - web apps

I see from Richards post, we can put a chart in a report or desktop form.

My impression from the V11 marketing was I would be able to put a chart in a web page as a web component... ie, in a grid or on a page.

Putting in a report is not the same as displaying a chart dynamically.

I referenced the V11 Wiki, but there is a reference to a chart web component, but its contents are empty.

Can someone clear the water for me.

Is there a web chart component we can put in a grid / page?

I also remember seeing a mobile grid in all the peek videos, believe it was called a Light Weight Grid or something similar. Cant seem to locate it.

The only ones listed are for Desktop and Reports. Note my post was in regards to Web Components.
