Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    V11 Install

    Just downloaded V.11
Do I need to Uninstall V.10 before I install V.11?

    Thanks

    Re: V11 Install

Nope. V10 ad V11 can run side by side. V11 installs in it's own directory.

did it overwrite your shortcut? Maybe make another icon to the v10 version? My v10 on the desktop was renamed to a5dev so it would not be overwritten.

I think eveytime I have installed a new verison it rewrites the shortcut on the desktop to the last program I entered. If load the runtime last, the shortcut takes me to the runtime. I have to go back and create a new shortcut.

            Re: V11 Install

Installing v11 changed my shortcut from 10 to 11 and removed 10 from the add/remove program list in control panel, but left the program directory intact, which makes me wonder if I will have any unused dll files in the registry when I delete the v10 folder.

              Re: V11 Install

Are we talking a shortcut directly to Alpha 5 (i.e. Alpha5.exe) or maybe a shortcut to an application (i.e. myapp.adb) if it is the latter what is happening is when you install the newer version it automatically tells your operating system to associate all .adb files with that newer version.
To get round this open the application with your preferred version and then go to the control panel and use the create a shortcut option from there and it will create a shortcut that explicitly uses the version of Alpha 5 that you have created it from.
Hope this makes sense and helps.

Jay, I put the V11 trial version outside of the X86 folder. Then you will get a separate launch Icon.
One problem I have come across is that Win7 doesn't appreciate having more than one [Alpha5] exe in the x86 folders.

                  Re: V11 Install

The desktop shortcut to v10 was replaced by v11. I can run v10 by running alpha5.exe from the v10 program directory.
I already installed 10 on my netbook, so I need to remove 10 from my main PC to be license compliant.

I'm not a developer, so I only run one version per PC.

What I found confusing was not being able to remove v10 by using the control panel.

                    Re: V11 Install

Jay, you can have 2 copies of each version. The intention was to have one installation on a Desk top and one on a Laptop.
When you install and Register Alpha, you can only have the version you purchased on computers with different names.
So, if you have purchased V10 and V11, you can have 2 copies of each - one copy of V10 and also V11 on the Netbook, the others on another machine.

Never realized that. I usually read the license info during an install, but since I've been using Alpha 5 since it was Alpha 4 for OS/2 I probably just skipped over it to start using the program. I even had a 5.25" version from DOS days, was it Alpha 3 back then?
