Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Can't start new file?!?!

OK so I've fired up Version 11. I start a new database, at least I try to. It literally won't let me input a file name to save a new db! It just makes a "bonk" sound. It has a space for it. But I can't type anything there. That space has a little drop down arrow like I should pick one. But picking one doesn't quite go with creating a new db?!

    Any tips?

btw - I'm on Windows 7. I saw some mention of Compatibility mode... but I can't find that? Is that what I need to do? If so - where is that setting?

Well, I can't even open a sample db. So, I'm going to bed. Tomorrow is another day, and it'll still be here waiting for me! 'night y'all!

Yeah, check w. Gary Traub. It's a Win-7 "compatibility" issue. BONK BONK, BONK BONK! Reminds me of a movie I saw years ago. Can't think of the movie's name or the actor?

Thanks. Who's Gary Traub? I'm looking through this forum for something on this, not seeing anything.

And - my two cents - it's really absurd to not be able to load software on the most current operating system and have it work. I haven't done any changes to Windows. I don't have any unusual virus software or any fancy setup. This should just work, period.

Well, I found some instructions on-line and followed them. It said to right click on the exe file and choose Compatible. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...lity-mode.html When I do that, I don't get a compatibility choice. But I saw a thing for "check compatibility" or maybe it was "detect" - don't remember, but it made sense, so I tried it. It said I could run it in XP SP2 mode- so I did. No dice. I had additional errors about other components not installing correctly. I took the choices to let it reinstall them with recommended settings.

I am very disappointed. I very much prefer to be all sweetness and light all the time, but I just can't summon that over this.

                  Wendy,

I have been running V11 on windows 7 64 bit (and 32 bit) on several systems since the start of the beta. Never had an install issue, never had an error message, so this is not the norm. I noticed in one of your screen shots that you installed this on a network drive? did you try installing to the c drive? compat.PNG

My exe file is on my W drive, but I installed locally. I'll move the exe file to my C drive and try again. I do keep up to date on my service packs, but I'll double check that also. Thanks.
