Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Grid with dynamic date columns

    Hi,

I am trying to create a dynamic data entry grid which should show the weekday and date as a column header depending on the month. For September this year would look like this:

    Excel_example_sept11.JPG

    1. Is it possible to create month after month a new entry grid depending on the current month and date.
    2. Is it possible to gray out non working days?
    3. Users want to be able to edit the whole month at once seeing the sum per day and project so they can see at one glance for which day or project they did not fill in numbers yet.

I would be grateful if anyone had an Idea how to create such an entry grid.
I am using v10.5 Build 4369 systems Addins 3712 and an MS SQL Server Via Alpha DAO

    Thank you!

    Hi

This looks like you need to pivot your tables.

Here is a good start for you

Re: Grid with dynamic date columns

      Thanks David,

I already knew how to create a pivot table. My Problem is the dynamic part. That each month will have different columns and that I can only show the all dates of the current month without actually having to create all of them previously for each user in the database. The Time table in the database has currently following columns: Entry_ID. User_ID, Project_ID, hours, Date. I do not want to need to go into A5 every month to create the grid for the current month as the columns change.

      Thank you for your help.

Re: Grid with dynamic date columns

Hi to all who are interested in this.

In the end I created a Dialog2 with V11 and added a repeating section which always has 31 columns /textboxes with the label Day1to Day31. The field label I enclosed in language tags like "<a5:r>Day2</a5:r>" Then I went To Properties >Other>Language definitions and clicked on "refresh List of Placeholders". For each placeholder I entered an expression like:
        Code:
        Day2=expn:date_format(Date_FirstDayOfMonth(date())+1, "Mon w dd"
and now with every changing month my labels change as well.

hope this is useful to somebody else as well.
