Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: V11 vs. UAC

    Check out possible name contention.
I had a few issues with the Alpha5 name in more than one derectory.
No matter which app. I clicked on, V9 RT fired.
    Resolved by renaming Alpha5 to Alpha5 V10 and Alpha5 V9

        Re: V11 vs. UAC

I have Win 7 Home 64 on my personal laptop and Win 7 Professional 64 on my work laptop. I also installed v11 on both machines without a hitch. I just followed the A5 installation prompts and when the UAC popped up, obviously I agreed to make the change. I've not had the UAC pop up since on either machine when opening either v10 or v11, although for awhile, it did popup when opening v10. Why it started or stopped, I haven't a clue.

I also ran the Upgrade Adviser and it gave me a list of 12 devices and 16 programs on my pc that are compatible. A5, along with most of the programs, was no listed so I question the comprehensiveness of the Windows Adviser.

Also, by default, A5 is installed in the X86 folder. Other than the brief hiccup, I've not had a problem.

          >>I don't want to disable UAC, that would not be wise.

But it will be a pain even in Windows 7; I disable mine all the time

Since Alpha is a 32 bit app it SHOULD be in the x86 folder

                  Re: V11 vs. UAC

Read that Frank, and the rationale is that it should stop installed apps contention.
Well it didn't work for me.
Alpha V9 and V10 and Runtime could be separately launched from the D/Top Icon.
Running an app from the Folder always launched R/Time.
Made no difference changing the Default Programs, so I had to rename V9 and 10 and then set the defaults.
It does not seem possible to rename R/t and for it to still work building apps.

                    ted,

I'm only into web apps, don't have RT. Why would you install a runtime on a machine that has the developer already installed? Just curious.

                      Re: V11 vs. UAC

You need it for building the Runtime applications in a Desktop environment Frank.
In the Dev environment there is an option to [Create an Install Package].
The process takes a stripped down version of Alpha - without the edit/design capabilities - and creates/builds a package which includes the application and the RT.
The stripped down version is the Runtime environment, and the two need to be the same build.
If RT isn't installed, it isn't possible to create a distributable package unless the intended host has Alpha installed already.
With WAS, you must have some other way of preventing access to your code - presumably through the Server software.
I'm not into WAS (yet), but will be going that way I suspect.
