Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Would you please tell me if i can do this on Aplha 5 version 9 Platinum Edition

I have Just been asked to set up a database, and all the details I received are listed below. I have never attempted a Web based application, and I need to know if I can use my existing Alpha 5 version 9, to make and then upload the application, if I manage to put it together.

I would also really appreciate any comments about the difficulty this challenge might offer, and my chief concern is with the last paragraph,
This is all the information I have for the project at this point, but my main question is whether i need to upgrade to a newer version, than I have at present.

    -----------------------
    User table

UserID | UserName | password | Security question | Security Answer

    Business table

BizID | UserID | Business Name | BizCategory | Short Description | Profile Link

    Category table
CatID | Category | Type (Parent, or if sub cat, then category this sub category is listed under)

    Detail table* **

DetailID | BizID | Long Description | Image Link | Webpage | UNewsPaidTo* | SammiesListPaidTo**

    Comments/Ratings Table

    CommentID | UserID | BizID | Rating | Comment | BizOwnerResponse

This is rudimentary, based on what I did years ago with a PHP/MySQL database. With that in mind, let me ramble on about how it would work.

Administrators would be able to add data to any table. The detail table and Category table would be exclusively for the Administrators. Would like to see it set up so we can add by the business, and it would automatically add to the other tables as well. For example, if we add:

    Business Name: UNews
    Owner: BiTraci_UNews
    Category: Other Media
Short Description: UNews is a newspaper covering events, people and places.

This would populate the business table, and also create the user in the user database, with a generic password. If the person in question later wanted to modify the information themselves, they could reset the password, and the new temporary password would be sent to their email address(if possible).

Users can also submit their businesses themselves, by creating a user name and password, and then submitting the information.
Users would be able to register at the site, and make comments on businesses listed, as well as rate the businesses. If they so choose, business owners could respond to any comments, and would have the right to request that inflammatory comments be removed, if they are without merit, at a maximum of 1 comment removal per calendar month. Users would also rate the businesses, from one to five stars along with the comments, or they could simply rate the business without commenting.

You can probably do this with the Aplication Server version of A5V9, I doubt you can do it with the desktop version (where you posted).
    There can be only one.
