Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

SQL Count Error Using Dialog Edit

I am trying to edit a record in a grid component by using the Dialog component and Action Javascript and Server-side Action Scripting per video D24 http://www.ajaxvideotutorials.com/V11Videos/DialogComponent-EditGridRowAndEnterNewRecord.swf

When I call the Dialog from the grid component, the dialog is giving me a SQL Count Query error (attached).
I think the only difference between my Dialog and the one in the video is that I have a linked details grid holding the data for the repeating rows section of the Dialog.

I'm kind of stumped on this, so any suggestions greatly appreciated. If I figure it out, I will post back.

I just ran through the example in the video link you supplied and it works ok.

So, you have a linked details grid, and what you're thinking is that the details should show up in the dialog repeating rows section? I'm going to try to duplicate that and see what I get.

Hi David, yes that's what I was hoping ... but maybe it's not possible.
I'd be very interested to know if you have any success when there are repeating rows in the dialog.

Look like it's ok in my test for a linked detail grid feeding into a dialog with repeating rows. Does your dialog function correctly by itself?
My tables are pretty simple MySQL tables but that shouldn't make any difference. So... what else can it be?

No problems with my Dialog component. I can create new records and save the header and details (with rows) to the SQL database.
Can I ask if you let Alpha create the database tables for you based on the dialog controls or did you manually create the dbase tables yourself?

I'm actually very encouraged that you have this working because I've been bashing this one out for a few days now and was really starting to wonder.
Perhaps tomorrow I will try again building a new dialog from scratch.

I built the tables first, then built the dialog and bound to the existing tables. Does your data binding look like this?

My bindings look like this ...

I see you have 3 primary keys listed in the header table properties? Would you mind posting your tblpk_details bindings?
I'm wondering if my bindings may be the issue.

                David,

I've got it ... it was something completely silly. I did not include data binding in the control properties of the pk in the dialog component (see attached).
                Working great now!

Many thanks for trying this out for me. You really start second guessing yourself after a while. The fact that you could do this was incredibly
helpful. Otherwise, I might have given up. Everyone's time is valuable, so the fact you took the time to offer your support here was very, very
                much appreciated.

Very glad you got it. I checked mine and they are there. That's what I thought, as well... that since it worked here then it's just a setting missing. Finding it is tough sometimes. My pleasure... any time, but it was good sleuthing on your part. Going through some of these issues is a great way to get to know the new dialog.
