Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Validate entry using mask if field is spelt wrong

Is it possible to use a mask (or?) to validate a field if it is spelt wrong.
So lets say a user can enter a variety of country codes in a field, I would like it to bounce the entry if for example the user enters SAD when they are supposed to enter SAF. This would return an error message.
Taking this one step further but probably beyond my capabilities it could suggest the country code based on the first letter of the code the user has entered. So if they enter SAD it would say error and then list other country codes beginning with S.
This last step isn't important though my main aim is to bounce entries that are spelt wrong.

Have you abandoned your thread "Filter records on a form - user selected"?

        Hi Steve
I will assume you want a single code, here's a sample
Open the form and as you type it will suggest the next closest.
eg type US and you will get USA suggested, Type U and you will get UK suggested, if you want UKR then carry on typing.
        CtryCode.zip
Type U and you will get UAE, then type the K for UK etc

          Hi Ray,

Where do you get the table and filter as in your choices sectionmine.PNGcntry.PNG?

            Steve
I created a table and look-up using easily available methods in properties. I have no idea what your fundamental structure is and I'm not great at guessing.
Here is a useful Wiki link http://wiki.alphasoftware.com/Creati...scading%20List
If you want guidance at an elementary level with your own set-up, zip and attach your DB or prepare a strip down sample of what you HAVE done and where you are stuck.

Ray, Im sure its simple thats why this is driving me crazy. I have looked at the field rules in your example table and I dont see any lookups.
Im also seeing different choices in your property section to mine.

Ive looked through your example and the only place I can see where you've made changes is in the choices section in properties.

How do you get the section that appears in the choices section as in this picture. Like I say I dont see any field rules or lookups when I look at the design of the table or the form?df.PNG

Steven, may I suggest you spend an hour or two reviewing the User's Guide? The responses you're getting in this thread (and others) use very specific terms with which you seem to be unfamiliar. Time spent in the user guide will pay dividends for you, and will help others help you more effectively.

I created a simple table to illustrate, because I had no way of seeing yours. There are no field rules.
Try the various TYPES of dropdown control types in Properties, Setup.
