Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Tablet mode - what am I missing?

The new tabbed_ui's ability to convert to a very presentable tablet mode is great. BUT I feel like I'm missing a step? The video implies that we will need two copies of a given tabbed_ui - one for tablet mode and one for regular web browser mode. How is that supposed to fly? We need a way to convert to tablet mode on the fly when the user accesses the site from a phone or tablet. This needs to be a check box setting "auto-convert" or something. OR, at the least, we need a function that intercepts the user's call to tell the server that the request comes from a tablet or regular browser. Or did I miss something along the way?

    Peter,

As you look at the source of the tabbedUI you find this at bottom DIM tmpl.layout.layoutMode as C = "DesktopBrowser".
After the login or before you can check the useragent for Ipad or Iphone in the response use anyI() or similair.
Based on that you could change the dim statement in the before.
I followed this to dynamicly set up the tabbed_ui and stylesheets for desktopbrowser and tablet in my apps the user selects his preference stylesheet acording to the device in the user profile manager.
So in this concept you do not have to rewrite or copy your grids more to alter behavior to the device it's running.

      Eric,

      What's "anyI() or similair"?

Oh sorry I mean you have to search for the word "Ipad, Iphone" in the response from the useragent like this

        dim youvar as c = request.useragent
        if containsi(yourvar,"iphone") then
        yourstuff

        end if

          Thanks Eric. Much appreciated.

You wouldn't happen to know what the typical request.useragent values might be for Android would you?

Re: Tablet mode - what am I missing?

I have created a new copy of my tabbedui and it looks great but all of the scrolling functions still are the same as a regular page. Other than a different layout and bigger user buttons it doesn't do much for me there are no scroll bars or anything to make it easier to browse on a phone or an ipad.

              Chad,
Is that not a part of the new Alpha MobileFrameWork to be released at later time.
              Let's wait for a reaction from R&D.

                Chad,

Aren't you supposed to swipe (as vs. scroll)?

The only component that currently implements touch event handlers is the IGC. Work continues to progress on "mobilizing" all other components so stay tuned.

Yes, thanks Bob. It's so helpful to get some feedback on what Alpha is up to. I wish Alpha would do this regularly, rather than the usual silence.
