Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Renaming an image file with Image Upload

    I have the images renaming upon upload with Image Magick. How would I specify (or reference) the field Product_ID in the xbasic Functions Declarations code to insert that variable into the filename of the image.

    Basically, I want to prefix the image name with the product ID that it's associated to. To avoid any overwriting by other records.

    I'm using SQL 2008.

    You can do that - but unless you really need to - just set the images upload to rename the filename if it already exits - it's in the top part of the image upload settings, it just adds an increment number to each filename for you.
    Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

      Re: Renaming an image file with Image Upload

      That would work if the file was up there already. But this is a new upload.

      This is the code I have
      --------------------------------------------

      function scaleimages as v (e as p)

      dim fn1 as c
      dim fn2 as c
      dim fn3 as c
      dim fn as c
      dim file_name as c
      dim file_ext as c
      dim cmd_string as C
      dim im_path as c
      im_path="c:\Program files\ImageMagick-6.7.3-Q16\convert "

      fn = e.imageFilenameOnServer
      file_name = file.filename_parse(fn,"N")
      file_ext = file.filename_parse(fn,"E")
      'file.From_blob("C:\myimages\\" + fn,e.fileBlob)
      fn1 = "D:\MerchTrack\images\products\\" + file_name + "_LG.png"
      fn2 = "D:\MerchTrack\images\products\\thumb_" + file_name + ".jpg"
      fn3 = "D:\MerchTrack\images\products\\[Product ID]" + file_name + "_SM.png"

      'run imagemagik and scale images

      cmd_string = im_path + fn + " -scale 600x600 " + fn1
      sys_shell_wait(cmd_string,.f.)
      cmd_string = im_path + fn + " -scale 350x350 " + fn2
      sys_shell_wait(cmd_string,.f.)
      cmd_string = im_path + fn + " -scale 123x123 " + fn3
      sys_shell_wait(cmd_string,.f.)

      end function

      --------------------------
      The [Product ID] part in bold is where I want the ID of the product the image belongs to.

      Make sense?

        After reading your post a bit more Pete, I understand what you're saying. But by adding the product ID, it helps me organize the files. Your idea will work for another project I'm working on though.

        Thanks!

          Re: Renaming an image file with Image Upload

          I too would like to rename the file when uploading. I would like to clip the Client_ID to the front of the filename.
          1234-Thanksgiving1.jpg
          1234-Thanksgiving2.jpg
          That way I can use the ImageGallary filtering to show all 1234-.* images for that customer.

          Actually I would prefer to name them using API_UUIDCREATE()
          1234-3c5de491-4656-4ec4-bafa-a2203140cdd1
          1234-126b68b5-2362-4543-94eb-373bfc7f3c28

          I tried placing file.rename(OldFilename, NewFilename) in a function on the Image Upload>Server-Side Events>Before Save and On Save. It appeared to me that the file was not upload in time for the rename function, causing an error indicating the file was not found to rename.

          I would also like to upload a thumbnail version of the image (100 Pixels) and a 400 Pixel image at the same time. Is that possible with the Image Upload action or do I need to page to code all this.

          Thanks.

            Re: Renaming an image file with Image Upload

            Using the Image Upload action I can add code to the Image Upload>Server Side Event>Before Save. This code will upload a file name Desert.jpg and save it to the server as C10001.jpg. It also saves the newfilename in the grid record.

            dim newfilename as c
            newfilename = "C10001.jpg"
            e.filenameOnServer = newfilename

            How do I capture the record's Client_ID and use that in the name. I tried:
            newfilename = DataSubmitted.Client_ID
            newfilename = e.DataSubmitted.Client_ID
            but DataSubmitted is not available at the time of this function. How to I get the records Client_ID into this "Before Save" function? I'm using SQL if that makes a difference.
