Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Error running addin'

On an App installed into Windows 7 home premium I get this.

    Error running addin' Startup_100_Register_Controls';
    Could not open OLE object'{8c2583c-A05b-44b8-851e-95b288ca2cde}'

The register bat file for Windows 7 was run.
The App was installed as administrator and appears to run ok after the error, however the blue background has been replaced with a black background. Could this be the problem? Simply the color?

    Re: Error running addin'

Running Win 7 Professional, 64 bit.

Version 10 ran fine until I installed Version 9, had trouble with it, and deleted it. Now I get the same error as Scott when I run Version 10.

If I dismiss the error dialog, V10 seems to run okay. I have set it to "run as administrator" and that gets rid of the error dialog, but now I have to tell Windows User Account Control that it's okay to allow A5 to make changes to my computer.

Like Scott, I ran the register.bat file for Vista and Win 7 but I don't get the 6 confirmation dialogs the batch file says I should see. (Unless they go by so quickly, I don't see them at all.)

    Ideas are welcome ..... thanks!

I use this free cleaner. Works well.
      http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

Cannot replicate your problem and I have had V9, V10.5 and until I unplugged it recently, V11 all running in harmony. V9 and 10.5 running side by side.
      Win 7 64 Premium.

        Re: Error running addin'

        Ted,
I am not as concerned with the error as the color of the background. It makes the app "Ugly". I was just trying to figure out if the error caused the color change? But you couldn't replicate it.... I will work on it some more.

Thanks for all your help as usual.

          Re: Error running addin'

Check the .bat file. Maybe there's something wrong in there.

This is what started your problem: "Version 10 ran fine until I installed Version 9, had trouble with it, and deleted it."
Each of those file names can only be registered once. The folder location doesn't matter - only the name. When you installed v9, the files in the v9 folder were registered. When you deleted v9, those files disappeared so having them registered doesn't do much good anymore. Now the same files in the v10 folder (or any other A5 folder that you might have) need to be registered.

I also noticed that the file name on my system is "RegisterFilesVistaWin7.bat" but you are referring to "the register.bat file for Win7" - are we sure we are talking about the same thing? My plain "register_dlls.bat" file has the /s option in it which is the "silent" option that turns off the messages. That file is also missing a few other batch commands that are in the "RegisterFilesVistaWin7.bat" file.

You can also try running each command in the .bat file separately by typing "regsvr32.exe <full_path_name>" in the Win7 Search window (Start/Search) for each file. NOTE that the FULL path is required when doing it this way.

If nothing else works, try just re-installing A5v10. You shouldn't have to uninstall anything - just re-install it over the existing files and that should reset the registrations. Of course, you may have to also install the latest v10 update.

            Thanks for the suggestions, Cal.

Yes, I was referring to "RegisterFilesVistaWin7.bat". I registered each file individually and received confirmation that all were successfully registered. I ran dhtmled.msi as per the last line of the batch file. Rebooted; no change.

So I reinstalled V10 over itself, ran it once, then installed the last patch and rebooted again. No change.

I looked through the registry and I see a lot of Version 9 stuff left behind, but I don't feel like messing around in there. I'll either live with it, or turn User Account Control off, which solves (or hides) the problem - it's a royal pain anyhow as far as I'm concerned.
