Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Yes this is getting interesting... looking to have calendars assigned by machine / workstation.

.. looking to have calendars assigned by machine / workstation.
To quote an old commercial, "It's in there".

Also, with the full version that includes the Xbasic source code you can add any kind of filtering ability your skills will allow. The full version also enables you to use your own calendar table format. The light version allows you to add columns to the required ones and filter on them by adding a filter argument. These filter arguments, as well as all the various calendar options, including connection strings and calendar table, can be set at design time or during run time by using session variables. Since it is a custom component, the arguments can also get their values from a grid by using the action javascript command to open a custom component.

The download site is now up and running. You can download a demo there as well as see videos, documentation etc. The only thing missing is the payment link for the paid versions and that should up in a day or two. You can check it out at http://www.a5customsolutions.com

              Frank,

It is fully fuctioning with or without the xbasic code, there is just more you can do progammically if you have the xbasic source.

              Robert,

My current calendar has 9 people/sections calendars all shown in one view with different colours for each person/section. There is a new demo available see the announcements section of this forum

The version with the Xbasic source code includes all my functions, that make the thing work, available to the developer in the code tab so he/she can alter them to suit his/her needs. Handy if you want to use your own calendar table format, add additional filtering options, add support for back ends like Oracle that rely on sequences for auto-increment fields and so on. The one without has all the same functions, just not in a form available to the developer to read or alter.

If anyone has tried the demo and had an issue after publishing, or running under IE8, I've updated the demo with a fix. It also now includes a sample tabbed_ui with the components running in it. It can be downloaded at the site in my signature below.

If anyone is considering a calendar for their product, I just wanted to say that you honestly can't go wrong with Jim's A5 jQuery Calendar, it's on version 4.5 now and it is a very well thought out add on to any alpha software.

The customization is great and the customer service is outstanding! I'm very impressed with the knowledge that Jim has about his product...I say that because he clearly didn't just build this add on and forget about it, he is actively trying to make it better and if there is an issue, knows exactly how to fix it.

I haven't used the Web2 Cal but from what I hear they are no where near as good with their customer support and I don't think their option is anywhere near as customizable as Jim's is.

5 stars all the way :-)
