Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

New Third Party Custom Calendar Component

I'm putting the final details on custom calendar component that I've been working on. It works in V10 and V11. It does require a SQL backend and I've been testing it with MySQL, MS SQL Server and Access. I created a quick video over view at the link below. If, after you view the video, you're interested in a beta trial version, or have other questions send me a PM or email me at [email protected]. Thanks.

Nice job, Jim! Question: can you filter the calendar on a user/group/item/whatever?

      Thanks Peter.
No filtering in this version. You could use separate tables, or set up a SQL view to do the sort and base the calendar off the view. Since I use a session var to hold the table/view name you could use xbasic to change its value on the fly.

        Jim -

I like the looks of this. Great start! Does the jquery stuff that you are using support multiple calendars, other views, etc.??

I'm sure that there is more stuff that can be integrated - just curious if the stuff was there on the jquery side...

Jim, I tried to reply to your announcement to tell you that your calendar really looks good, but I apparently don't have permissions to do that post. Since I was disappointed that the calendar component in V11 seemed to be limited in space on the month view for showing bars for multiple events occurring during the same hours (it has 'click for more' or something) , I was glad to see yours seems to be easily handling that. I saw that Peter asked you about filtering, which would also be important to me for selecting one or multiple jobs, and/or one or multiple sub-contractors assigned to tasks... bottom line, I know I might need the filtering capabilities, but will be very interested in learning what price you come up with, and would be happy to test, if you like.

Nice, Jim. Did you start with wdCalendar? If so, how are you dealing with the LGPL license?

Have you considered upgrading this from a Custom Control to a User-defined Control to add a Property Grid for configuration?

Re: New Third Party Custom Calendar Component

Thanks Martin. I'm OK with LGPL, at least as I understand it, for this endeavor. If there is any interest in this connector I may release another using a different model that allows for traditional fully protected licensing. Maybe something like DHX's . This really just started as an experiment to see if I could do it.

As far as the Custom Control goes, I thought about doing that, but will a user defined component work in V10? The custom component does.

Okay, I'll bite. What is a "User-defined Control"? I know what the new v11 Custom Component is, but User-defined Control escapes me.

                  Peter,

We're referring to a User Defined Component. Sorry about the poor description. I edited my reply to Martin to make things clearer to others that may be reading this thread.

Re: New Third Party Custom Calendar Component

I just finished up adding the option to use a Dialog2 component instead of the default form for detailed edits and inserts.
This of course opens up a whole lot of possibilities. See the first post in thread if interested in trying it out. Thanks.

Great job so far, Jim! I'm still crossing my fingers that we'll be able to filter the calendar by something like Project (so I could use that for my home builder' jobs) and Assignee (person who event is assigned to). MORE work, I know, but I think filterting would make your tool a really powerful one.

                          Frank,
No other servers are needed. This runs entirely under the Alpha 5 web server. All database interaction is controlled by xbasic. Everything else is html, javascript and jQuery.

The beta period is wrapping up and I'm not adding any new testers. We now have user definable custom filtering as well as inserting/updating by Group/Calendar ID.
