Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Xbasic code for Alpha's Email Cient Window

    Hi,

Does anyone know where I can see the code that is used for the Alpha's internal Email Client Window, e.g. the window that pops up when sending a report by email, that requires the user to press "Send" at the top left corner and enter data if data is not already filled in, for the following fields:- To: , CC: , BC: , Subject and Body of the email.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Regards,

    Ant.

I don't think the code is available to us. You can invoke it with EMAIL_CLIENT(). The documentation for the function will reveal the parameters that are possible to supply.

What in the code are you interested in? It is an xdialog, and you can build one for your needs to use with the email_smtp_open() method (which is what I use).

Re: Xbasic code for Alpha's Email Cient Window

          Hi All,

Many thanks for the various suggestions. I have tried to find the code, all to no avail.

Maybe Stan is right and the code is not accessible.

It does sound like Mike has the answer to this, unfortunately, I don't know much about xDialog. I learnt Alpha studying the xbasic code behided action scripts etc. I would be interested to know how Mike has made his own version of Alpha's Emailer.

The normal email window does not have the Send Button in focus when the window opens, and is actually "greyed out" if there is no Send To: data or Subject: data.

I know to press on the Send button, but users have asked me if the Send Button can be set so that pressing "Enter" key will send the email, which would mean the Send Button has Focus when the window opens.

          Thanks All.

          Regards, Ant.

Re: Xbasic code for Alpha's Email Cient Window

Can your users be trained to use CTRL-E for send email? That's the keboard combination that triggers the send button.

              Hi Stan,

Unfortunately Ctrl-E does not work on the email window.

Does for me. Do you get an error?

There's no error - the windows just sits there with all the Send To: CC: BC: and Subject and Body fields filled in, waiting for the user to press "Send" with the mouse.

Here is an example I found that has an email dialog using email_smtp_open() that seems to be what you want. Hope it helps.

                      Hi Mike,

Wow that is a great bit of coding you have done there. Many thanks.

I'll need to work out how to get the To:, CC:, BC:, data to fill those fileds from a Form, like the Alpha Email Client does. Do you use it to auto fill these fileds ?

                      Regards,

                      Ant and Leslie.

Yes, I use this code with the variables defined at the top of the script, which in this example are hard coded, but in practice set the variable values dynamically through variable_name=topparent:fieldname.value assignments, or the like.

I have one somewhere that does that - sort of - but I have to leave in about 5 minutes and will be gone most of today and tomorrow so it will probably be Monday before I can find and post it. Mine:
                          - uses the same arguments as the original Email_Client() to pass the To, Subject, etc. (which means you could easily get the info from your form and pass it to the function.)
                          - stores previously used e-mail addresses in a text file so they can be added from a drop-down list to the To, CC, and BCC lists.
                          - allows you to select attachments.
                          - is resizable

The one thing I haven't figured out how to do yet is to set the text area up to work with an HTML editor. In other words, like Mike's, it's just plain text.

                          Edit:
I see Mike posted the simple solution.
Also, mine is currently set up to use email_send2() but that would be relatively easy to change to the smtp commands.

                              Hi Cal,

No problem there's no rush here.

I don't use HTML so plain text is just fine for me.

It would be nice to see your version and I then ammend and use both to suit my forms.

                              Many thanks,
