Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Import Ascii file Javascript

Followed video in setting up Action button on grid tool bar to import comma delimited ascii file into grid. Everything appeared to fall in line with instructions in video. Tried to run it in localhost and crashed with "fatal error running a5_ajax_grid() Error loading c:\\A5webroot\\session_folders\\ \\file _temp.dbf" after trying to import from PC directory where Ascii file is located.

I can import same file using an Import Operation off of Control Panel with no problem.

    Any suggestions?

Is that the exact/literal error message you get? The temp file should be created in a session folder inside the sessions folder with a guid style name e.g. c:\A5webroot\session_folders\64fbf8e266834d6da254db7981808d1d & it should be named file_anotherguid_temp.dbf e.g. File_2ceea49b50cc49b9a0e523f947a2559c__temp.dbf
It looks as if no session folder is being created. Can you manually create a folder in the sessions folder ?

Thanks Frank. There was no session_folders in a5webroot, so I manually created it. Then createI a guid style folder in it with the name in error message. then created the file_anotherguid_temp.dbf in that folder. Tried in localhost and on server with same error message. Of course, it creates a new guid style folder everytime you run it.

I have W7 and have been having permission problems with root directory in the past, so this may be the problem. If I try to copy some files to c:\, I get denied message.
Should be a way to change permission settings on C, but I can't get an answer from tech support.

Then you have a problem with rights or so, nothing to do with alpha. The sessions_folder is created whenever for example you do a live preview and in that folder another folder will be created for every session (with a guid name) and it will remain there for as long as the session is active / not timed out. Take the properties of your C: drive , check the Security tab to see what rights you have & adjust or change the webroot to drive D: (adjust in Alpha control panel/tools/application sever & restart the appserver)

I changed rights on C:, but did not change anything. I went and changed document folder in control panel/tools/application server and had some problem, so I chaged it back to a5webroot. When I try to start localhost application server, it says a5webroot does not exist, do you want create it? I say Yes and then it says it can not server, check server error l;og. Where is that? Now I am completely dead in water. I doubt restoring A5V11 will solve problem, as the changes in web project will not be affected by restore.

You have to fully qualify the path to the webroot. So enter "D:\Webroot" for example and Alpha will create that folder for you if it does not exist. Then restart the server, plain vanilla simple. See this video http://screencast.com/t/s4m1F6CuN

              Re: Import Ascii file Javascript

I tried D:webroot and got same result of not being able to start Server. I went back and reviewed video. I entered c:\a5webroot and pressed directory icon to right and it displayed a list of directories. It displayed a5webroot again, so I clicked on that, resulting in c:\a5webroor\a5webroot. I saved that and it worked. When I first following your suggestions, I created a directory for session_folders because it was not there. At that time, I noticed the other a5webroot directory. I went in there and there was a session_folders and a livepreview folder in there. Which is why the livepreviews have been working. It appears when you set up c:\a5webroot in App Server control it created a a5webroot subdirectory and it has been working since Version 8. May be a bug, but if it works don't fix it. It appears the Import logic is looking at the first directory only. At some point I will go back and put in c:\ and bring up list to see if a5webroot is there and click on it. At some point I would like the Import to work, but do not need it until I put my App on the Cloud. Right now I will be doing a lot of production work on desktop and then uploading the results to the website for clients to review. Once I get by the problem of printing reports for separate clients off the Printer image I will be lot happier. Xbasic will have to replace the desktop production. Then I can converted DBF to SQL and put on Cloud.

Thanks for the help. It has been educational. Everyday is a new adventure with A5.
