Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Report Viewer Super Control Problem (New)

I did search for a problems with this report viewer super control and found a user that had a similiar problem but it differed in the fact that the individual could not get the filter criteria to be listed at all. My problem is it disappears upon exiting the dialog, so it is similiar in nature. The thread mentioned that the problem was fixed in a v9 update but I am using v11. BTW I have Windows Vista on my PC but I do not think the problem is related to the operating system.

    Here is the scenario:
I have attempted to use the report view super control on a form and find that the report selected and the filter criteria will not save, regardless of whether I use custom criteria or allow the genie to set the criteria. I see the vendor form in Alpha Sports successfully uses the super control. However, I have tried the process in my database and in Alpha Sports. In Alpha Sports I created a vendor form exactly as the demo form and added a super control to the form with exactly the same criteria, using the same report. The genie sets the criteria properly in the dialog (name=name) but as soon as I select OK and exit out it will not save. Even returning immediately to the super control designer, it is apparent it does not save. Again, this is exactly the same setup as in the Alpha Sports v9ReportPreview form. Here are screen shots in the original dialog setup and immediately after exiting the dialog and entering it again (a.k.a. the "super control designer").

    While Creating:

    After Closing and reentering:
    12-5-2011 5-58-55 PM.jpg

When selecting "Refresh Preview" in the dialog I get this error message concerning the 'UI_DLG_BOX" script:
    12-5-2011 6-04-44 PM.jpg

It seems to be a bug but I am sure many of you have used this super control successfully and there is a setting somewhere to allow using this control. I have been unable to locate it however.

I would appreciate any insight anyone may have.

    Thank you!

    Dan

    Hi Dan,

I have just tested this and it works perfectly. What I dont see in your first image is the Location. See my screen shot.

Re: Report Viewer Super Control Problem (New)

      Thank you for your response!

Yes, when using the "v9ReportPreview" form as an example (the first screen shot), it works but upon reopening the super control designer the location is missing, i.e. even though the Products by Vendor report is selected it does not show the location. To show it, I need to select another report in the list and then the Products by Vendor report again. Then it shows the location. When I enter the "name=name" criteria the report location disappears. To show it again, I need to move focus to any other report and select the Products by Vendor report a second time. Then both show in the dialgog as I attached below. However when selecting OK which exits the dialog and selecting the designer again the report selection location disappears again.

Here is the shot when I reselect the Products by Vendor report in the v9ReportPreview form control a second time. You will see the report name, location and criteria

However when I select OK and enter the designer again the location is gone.

If I create my own super control and set it up exactly as the v9ReportPreview control, both the report selected, location and criteria vanish after exiting and entering the designer as follows:
      12-6-2011 10-07-26 AM.jpg

BTW, I am using v11 - Build 2237 - Addins 3828. My guess is you are not using the same version. If so please let me know as that would be significant. I really do not think I am doing anything incorrectly. I believe there is a piece missing in the underlying functionality on my machine. I have repaired, unistalled and reinstalled numerous times. I reported an "ordinal missing" error to Alpha's support but get no responses from them. In addition, their web site asks me to make another purchase to get another order number to ask another question which I find amazing since I have only had this for 1 week. I thought they would at least provide support for 30 days. I am not a novice and have done development with other tools for 18 years. I am not impressed with what is transpiring here.

      Thank you for your assistance!

Thank you to all who responded!

In case any of you are having this problem, Selwyn Rabins provided a bug fix. I tested it and it is now working as expected.
