Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    dropdown box fails with chrome

I am using a grid component with a dropdown box. When using ie it always works fine. When using chrome it works in development using the application server on my workstation. But when I upload to the actual server using the real application server it fails. I have tried populating the choices statically or from a file with the same bad results. The dropdown is set for: 0 (all) choices, height 1. I have tried several different fonts for the list. Selection of the dropdown box arrow gets no response. The list does not appear. Using the keyboard cursor arrows does get the items in the list to appear one at a time but the full list does not dropdown. Some times a right click shows the list briefly. If I change the height to 2 then at run time the height actually shows as 3 or 4 and the dropdown list does appear. But I want a height of 1. All my software is up to date and I using win7 on my workstation.
Does anyone know of a workaround for this?
    Thanks

Re: dropdown box fails with chrome

Searched the web and found many references to this problem with nothing to do with alpha5. One suggestion was:
Blocking the java plugin seems to have corrected the issue. To block java: go to chrome://plugins/ and click the disable link under java.
I did that and restarted chrome and it did seem to work. Now I have to find out if there are any side effects. I did already disable the PDF viewer plugin and that had no side effects so let see what happens here.

Re: dropdown box fails with chrome

This is a real problem. I can get chrome to handle dropdown boxes 3 ways but all have serious drawbacks. I can make the dropdown 2 lines high instead of 1 line but it then appears 3 or 4 lines high and I really just want 1 line high. I can disable the java plugin in chrome for all sites and but too many sites need the java plugin (like logmein, which I use all the time). I can disable all plugins for my alpha application site but that stops the pdf viewer plugin which I do need for my site. I can not see how to turn off the java plugin for just my alpha based site.
If anybody has solved this or had different observations please let me know.
      Thanks

Re: dropdown box fails with chrome

The plot thickens. As I said, when using the local host chrome can handle dropdown boxes but when using the application server on a remote host chrome can not handle dropdown boxes. I reduced the page to the simplest. Just a dropdown box then ran it from the local and remote hosts. The behavior was unchanged; failure on the remote host and ok on the local host. I examined the page source sent from each host. There was no difference. Then I changed the name (of the remote page source) from tst.a5w to tst.htm which was ok since the page made no reference to the data base. I uploaded tst.htm to another server which was not running the alpha application server. It was at roadrunner.com and I do not know what server software they run. Now chrome can handle the dropdown box fine. So the remote application server is doing something that neither the local host application server nor the server at roadrunner is doing and that makes chrome fail to open a dropdown box. Any ideas?
        Thanks
