Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Screen Resolution

is there a way in alpha five wherein a developer designed/made the app in a resolution of 1024 x 768 and deployed it to an end user with a higher resolution so that the screens will fill the entire screen? or vice versa- higher resolution to a lower resolution.

In the database properties menu choice select Maximize when opened. (Not the exact wording but you'll recognize the option.)
    There can be only one.

      Re: Screen Resolution

      Jetson,
What you are asking has been addressed several times on this board and the answer is no. What Stan wrote will have alpha fill the screen but the footprint of the form objects will all still be the same size. The worse problem is developing an app where the forms have been designed in a higher resolution and having the resolution of the end user be a lower resolution. In that circumstance parts of the forms are all blown off the page and the user can't see the entire form. So the only way to have this truly work is for the forms to be designed at the resolution of the end user's resolution.

Check out the dimensions tab in the properties to controls. Putting Stan's solution together with setting the dimension properties to stretch the controls on the form at the same time can assist to achieve what you need to do. In saying that this is sometimes not always ideal as it sometimes leads to awkward looking screens and Mike's solution will win the day.

I once used a solution that reset the column widths of a browse to suit the a change in browse size to fit the screen, so I would say this could do your job as well. It simply involved getting screen width and height on startup in the autoexec of the db and filling two numeric variables with the result. Then when I opened a form, controls were re sized to suit a change based on these dimensions. This was all don on the forms init event.

I also think your issue is not resolution as much as it is screen size

Jet, it's back to a specification from the end user.
If you create a resolution/size which accommodates the worse PC Screen in the building, it will probably work on all the others.
If you do it for the most popular, some may miss out.
If you look at the Alpha Sports, you will notice how small overall it is on screen, so it's designed as a "one size fits all" I suspect.

            Re: Screen Resolution

Probably a 1024 x 768 resolution as the minimum as most monitors today starts with it, 640 x 480 is rare.

If you look at the bottom of this thread you will see a bunch of links. This question has been discussed dozens of times and there is no satisfactory answer other than some of the suggestions you read here. Someone once said on this board that products like Quicken or Quick Books actually have several different form sizes that auto-select based upon the users screen resolution or size. Most developers wouldn't do that of course.

It makes one wonder if there is the full capabilities with xbasic to re-dimension automatically the forms and form objects based upon the screen resolution. Hum?

                    Mike,

Right on. I swear I saw such a script on this board sometime this year. It may not have been to resize but it did automatically iterate through all a form's objects.

                      Hi Clunes,
I am new to AlphaFive V11, I have one doubt regardsing Screen resolution i.e., As it was said that once we develop an application in Alpha Five, we can use it in either on Mobiles, Smartphones, Tablets, Desktop and Web... If so, the screen resolution differs from mobiles, tablets and Desktop. So, How can we adjust the screen resolution for mobiles, tablet and desktop for same application? So, If you have understood the question. Please do reply.

                      Thanks & Regards,
                      Suvarchala.

I think you will find that the sizing in the advertising relates to a WAS application, not D/top.
