Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Alpha5 allows you to create web applications that are platform independent. You cannot create native applications with Alpha5. Web Applications have a great benefit over native applications; google around and read all the lively discussions about this topic. There is a document in the works about where Alpha stands right now and what to expect on the mobile front from Alpha; stay tuned on this message board (probably the announcements section)

Take a look at Bob Moore's JQuery Mobile video (I think you will find it in related searches below this one; it not - it is on youtube). I haven't done anything with it .. but here are some things I've found:

CSS mobile layouts (see Style Builder)
GRID > PROPERTIES > ALTERNATE VIEWS

You can use Alpha to create a web app or a desktop app, but you can't create a native Iphone or Android app in Alpha. Sorry.

Re: How can we develop android mobile application using Alpha Five V11?

A native Android or iPhone/iPad HTML5 app could be built using Alpha Five and PhoneGap.

That said .. You need to be at a high intermediate to expert level in JavaScript and CSS3 and a basic understanding of Objective C, Xcode and Java is required.

To build a decent game, you'll be hand coding the app, primarily in JavaScript. You'll want the bulk of your code installed and running client side (HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript), while the server side code (Xbasic) will simply return JSON objects for client side processing.

You will also want a Mac with Parallels or Fusion installed so you can install both Alpha and the required Apple and Android developer SDK's.

Re: How can we develop android mobile application using Alpha Five V11?

                      Hi Robert Moore,

                      Thanks for your valuable information.
I am good at Java, Java Script, HTML, CSS3.
I am familiar with JSON, Objective C, XCode and Xbasic.

What are the Parallels or Fusion for? I have no Idea about it.
I have Alpha. With Alpha I can install only one SDK or both the SDK's. If both are possible.
Please let me know the step to Install them in Alpha Five V11.

                      Thanks & Regards,
                      Suvarchala.

Re: How can we develop android mobile application using Alpha Five V11?

I have been hoping for an off-line Android/Alpha 5 system for years. I do not have a reliable internet connection here in the hills of Massachusetts so any web based system in completely out of the question. Plus, I would not want to deal with the cost and complexity of having a host/server. I do not want a web based application in a box, I do not want it with a fox. I do not want it on a train, I do now want it in the rain. I just want a simple way to synch data between my desktop computer and my android smartphone. Nothing fancy, I don't care if I have to plug in to a USB port. I just don't have internet everywhere I need to access my data.

                        Any suggestions?

                        Thanks,

                        James

You can consider the latest android sdk full download and simulator and alpha running on local server and use your mobile to point to your PC local ip assuming your PC and mobile are sharing the same network the concept is the same for local ip and internet ip just diff in IP address only hope that helps
