Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

An unhandled exception (c0000005) was generated

We are randomly getting this error: An unhandled exception (c0000005) was generated
There is no explanation with this error, so it's impossible to troubleshoot.

If the error continues on same action, it seems to go away when we reboot server. Other times it might happen when a button is clicked to open a grid. Then it can go away when grid is closed and button is clicked again. Really, there is nothing I can point to because it is very random when it happens.

It doesn't seem to be particular to any one grid or action... just can suddenly happen on different ones that normally work ok.

Does anyone have any experience with this, or know what can cause this error? My connection is to a back end MS Access database.

Quickly googled this and seems like a Microsoft error that may be related to failing memory or video card issues. On what OS dou you get this? You don't have by any chance some exotic utility installed recently like Delfin media viewer ?

Thanks, Frank. I have forwarded your question to my server technicians as I don't know the answer.

We get this error on our 2003 server that runs our web app, whether its relevant or not it usually only occurs after AlwaysUp has restarted the service.

            Hi Frank,
It happens so rarely and I'm not convinced its AlwaysUp that causes it. I will drop him a line just in case.

No, Claire, I don't remember that we did find out. Have changed servers since then and my memory fails me as to whether this issue went away before or after that. Sorry I'm not more help on this.

We were experiencing this issue when the web server was running on a Virtual Machine. We ended up buying a real server and moving the web server and apps to it. Problem went away.

Carol were you running this on a virtual machine when you had issues as well? We're getting it too and are fairly well tied to our virtual machine setup for a while...

I'm semi-illiterate about servers and hardware (i let my IT person handle for me) so I have to admit I don't know what you mean by a 'virtual' machine. And it's been so long ago now that I don't even remember if I was having those errors on local development host or after app was deployed to our production server.

I've been getting this error for the past week or so now. It doesn't look like anyone has a definite fix for it from what I'm reading. Does anyone else have any updates on this?

There are a number or reasons for an unhandled exception. Please send in a bug report with server logs, following the recommendations in the bug reporting notes. Send the Access, Error, Xbasic error and Http Raw logs
