Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

I am not able to reliably reproduce the error so I'm not sure how much help the logs and such will help you guys but today we found that there were 5 instances of the application server running. I have no idea WHY there were 5 instances running but it's possible this is causing my issue. We've got it back down to one instance and I'm going to clear the logs again and see if the error comes back. I'll get in touch with Alpha if it starts more instances or reproduces the error.

If you are running the report server option, each report server will show as another instance of the application server. So if the option is set to allow 4 report server instances, you could see 5 instances running - one main instance which will have the largest memory footprint, and 4 others that would normally be idle unless a report is requested.

Re: An unhandled exception (c0000005) was generated

I had a similar headache and found that an issue arises when using session variables to populate an argument. It drove me batty for about 15 hours. My code would work once and fail any subsequent attempts. My code was using a session variable throughout the a5 server side code and when used to populate an argument, the variable would disappear and was not available for the rest of the script. So instead of using args.add("COID", session.coid) I changed to mycoid = session.coid --and -- args.add("COID",mycoid). Now my scripts appear to be working as intended.

Sorry also no clue... I did not ever really solve this... It was very inconsistant and I think it was basically to do with corrupted files...

I had to close the entire IDE. Somehow I think it had a lock on the database file (which is odd because the dbf file in alpha ide and the dbf file in the webroot are complete seperate files).
Anyhow, closing the IDE and reopening solved the issue.

                C0000005 i think is a generic share/access violation exception

                  I'm getting this error..sort of..too.
                  Specifically,

Unhandled Exception (Access Violation--the thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access.)
Alpha 5 will do a forced termination.

I have never seen this before. Databases are inaccessible. Jerry, any ideas? I have rebooted.

I got this error when running record_delete, but it ended up not having anything to do with that.

I had some buggy code that created (or tried to create) a chart. This resulted in some locked up files. After stopping and exiting the application server I was able to delete the files. I then restarted the server and now the record_delete code runs without issues.

                    Hope this helps someone...
