Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Embedded Multi-Select Check box list To Filter another checkbox list

    Hello everybody,

I want to create an Embedded Multi-select Check Box List that will filter another check box list item from different tables. I couldn't find any checkbox list control on my Alpha Five Version 10.5. Probably a wishlist for Alpha Five to add in future releases or an update of this version.

    Issue:
Lets say: An Item or multiple items is checked on Check box List (A) from table (A), and as a result of that, a different item is checked from Check box list (B) from table (B). These items (records) will be collected from data already in tables and stored in the form or browse.

I'm a clear novice to xbasic, could only create an xDialog check list, and not an embedded multi-select check list.

Please is there a solution to such an issue?

    Thank you.

Re: Embedded Multi-Select Check box list To Filter another checkbox list

In the properties to a field select setup tab and then look at control type drop down box. This will allow you to create a checkbox field.

I don't quite understand what your requirement is. When you check a list in the a checkbox the variable will contain the result. If you check more than one item, the result will become a list. You thn can loop through the list to populate a table as you need to.

Not sure what you mean by store in a form or a browse. A form or a browse are based on tables or sets, so do you mean to store the result by appending to a table/s?

Re: Embedded Multi-Select Check box list To Filter another checkbox list

      Hello Mark,

Thank you for your prompt reply. I'm sorry for not replying in time. Please allow me to elaborate on my requirements:

For instance, I have two tables (A and B) that are already connected or linked together with already created row list of data from 1 - 10, and I want these data (from table A and B) by default, to be displayed on an embedded checkbox list on a form. Now, when a table row data (an item) or multiple data is checked on table A's embedded checkbox list, it will automatically select or filter already specified data from table B's embedded checkbox list. Then, I can now check the selected available boxes from table B's embedded checkbox list before saving the form. This saved data could be viewed from a browse form.

Also, how will this be available for a browse, if this will be based on the same table or a set, as you mentioned on your last post, its beyond my knowledge of Alpha Five. When the form is closed that contain both the checkbox list and the browse, the data can still be viewed when its opened again by selecting a row on the browse.

      I hope you understand what I mean't
