Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    exporting a set

    Good morning all.

    I cannot seem to figure out how to export a set from a xbasic script. I created an operation to export the set and it works like a champ. I copied the xbasic to a script, changed the the pointer and cannot seem to get it to work.

    original xbasic:

    a_tbl = table.current()
    query.order = "Adcode"
    query.filter = "Adadrc=\"CM\".AND.Adtype=\"99\".AND.(Adcode=\"10\".OR.Adcode=\"330\")"
    query.options = "I"
    a_tbl.query_create()
    export.type = 0
    export.names = .T.
    export.file = "c:\prime_dms\temp\mpad_mpcm_set.csv"
    export.options = "LT"
    export.field_sep = ","
    export.record_sep = "<CR><LF>"
    export.fields = 5
    export.field1 = "adadrc"
    export.field2 = "adtype"
    export.field3 = "adcode"
    export.field4 = "dmf010_mpcm->cmname"
    export.field5 = "dmf010_mpcm->cmempl"
    a_tbl.export()

    modified xbasic:

    DIM A_TBL AS P
    A_TBL=SET.open("dmf010_mpad_mpcm.set")
    query.order = "Adcode"
    query.filter = "Adadrc=\"CM\".AND.Adtype=\"99\".AND.(Adcode=\"10\".OR.Adcode=\"330\")"
    query.options = "I"
    a_tbl.query_create()
    export.type = 0
    export.names = .T.
    export.file = "c:\prime_dms\temp\mpad_mpcm_set.csv"
    export.options = "LT"
    export.field_sep = ","
    export.record_sep = "<CR><LF>"
    export.fields = 5
    export.field1 = "adadrc"
    export.field2 = "adtype"
    export.field3 = "adcode"
    export.field4 = "dmf010_mpcm->cmname"
    export.field5 = "dmf010_mpcm->cmempl"
    a_tbl.export()

    it doesn't like the query. Take it out and it doesn't like the export. I have read about people combining the export table into one, but that defeats the purpose of the set.

    Thanks!!

    Re: exporting a set

    I figured it out. I used table.open() instead of set.open() and it worked perfectly. Seems odd, but it works.

    'a_tbl = table.current()
    DIM A_TBL AS P
    A_TBL=table.open("dmf010_mpad_mpcm.set")
    query.order = "Adcode"
    query.filter = "Adadrc=\"CM\".AND.Adtype=\"99\".AND.(Adcode=\"10\".OR.Adcode=\"330\")"
    query.options = "I"
    a_tbl.query_create()
    export.type = 0
    export.names = .T.
    export.file = "c:\prime_dms\temp\mpad_mpcm_set.csv"
    export.options = "LT"
    export.field_sep = ","
    export.record_sep = "<CR><LF>"
    export.fields = 5
    export.field1 = "adadrc"
    export.field2 = "adtype"
    export.field3 = "adcode"
    export.field4 = "dmf010_mpcm->cmname"
    export.field5 = "dmf010_mpcm->cmempl"
    a_tbl.export()

      Re: exporting a set

      Sounds like you exported the parent table, not the set.

        No, it exported parent and child fields.

          Yes..now reading your code in its entirety, I see it did.
          Is this a 1-1 set?
          If 1-M, did it however export ALL the child records?

            Re: exporting a set

            It is 1-1. I have been experimenting with this using filters and sorts combining parent and child records and it seems to work. I will try a 1-M later and share my results.

            Intersting enough, I found a couple of posts on this from the past and there a number of replies with various work arounds. Because it was a set, my first thought was to use set.open() and I got stuck on it. Immediately after my post, I thought about using table.open() since that is what was in the Xbasic generated by the operation. Shazam! It worked. Pretty cool.

            I wanted to use xbasic so I could dynamically change the export file name. If I could not get the xbasic work, I was going to use the operation that did work and use xbasic to change the name of the file after it had been exported. I was just puzzled why you could do it with an operation but not xbasic and you can.
