Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Grid Component Action Buttons - Desktop Application - Runtime

I built a desktop application in Version 11 using grid components. I created action buttons on the grid component to print a report. The action button works great with the developer edition but the buttons do not work with the runtime version. Can anyone tell me why? Thanks.

I can't get action buttons to work at all. When clicked nothing happens. If you have a working example I would appreciate it Steve. I'm particularly interested in toolbar action buttons.

Mike, can you send me an example of what you have? I can look it over and see if I can help. Thanks.

        Hi Mike,

See if this works for you. The zip file below has two files, one grid that you can copy directly into your AlphaSports web projects control panel and one export layout of a form based on the customers form from AlphaSports that you can import into AlphaSports. The form has a grid on it with standard button in the grid to open a report that is filtered by the grid row. The toolbar has an action button that prints the same report but with no filter.

Many thanks for your trouble Jim.

I cannot get the action buttons to work in Alpha Sports. Your buttons appear in the grid control and when running your form but nothing happens when any are clicked. I tried using them with and without running the server.

I have not tried re-installing v11 but will do later on.

Thanks again for your help. Mike

Well Mike, that is strange. I haven't seen that behavior. Have you tried running the grid in Firefox with Firebug to see if you get an error. I find that invaluable in trouble shooting these kinds of things.

I installed v11 again but that made no difference. Have not used Firefox/Firebug before but have now downloaded them. Not sure how to run my or your grids in Firebug. If you have a tip for that Jim I would appreciate it.

              Many thanks. Mike

Mike, go to the View menu in the Control Panel and choose settings / preferences / working preview. Does it look like the attached?

Mike, can you install the application to another computer and try it. I wonder if there is something on your computer that is conflicting.

Re: Grid Component Action Buttons - Desktop Application - Runtime

Jim, I tried that on another Win7 computer before proceeding with this thread. I did have a similar problem when testing grids in v10.5 after I bought feature packs. Selwyn and others kindly helped me sort that one out. That one cured itself after I ran the bat files in program files quite a few times. Unfortunately, the 10.5 problem has come back again when the v11 problem arose.

I agree it has to be something on my computers conflicting but I don't know what.

Edit - Sorry I shoukd have addressed this to Steve. Humble apologies

Thanks to everyone for your help on this problem. I used my wife's Vista computer and the action buttons worked there! I then managed to get Alpha Sports working with buttons on one of my Win7 computers after a number of re-installs so it is definitely not an Alpha problem. Mike

Sorry not to be explicit Ken. I meant my A5v11 original purchase downland and the last (final?) v11 update re-installs.
