Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

File download does not download all types

I use the file download feature pack. It is quick and easy. Now we found out that downloading pdf, xls, xlsx, and jpg are no problem but if i want to download a doc, docx, txt or log file (so these is what i tested and what we upload most) nothing happens.
They are uploaded well but i can't download them. I don't get an error message or something. just nothing happens
I tried with explorer, chrome and firefox and all the same
Can anybody point me in the good direction?

Hey Marc - Look in your Web Project Properties. Under File Download -> Allowed file names you can add those file types or just put *.* to cover everything if you're ok with that.

I am experiencing the same after the latest update and I did the changes in the Web Project Properties. This was working prior to the update.

Re: File download does not download all types

Now I have an issue in this area. My client is uploading files fine without issue multiple files as well. I have a upload folder outside of the root folder and listed under allowed folders so all is good on the uploading. However, when I try to open/save file that has been uploaded it works as expected except a page in the browser shows up with a 404 location unknown or something like that. Mind you, the file opens fine so obviously we are finding the right location, but I think initially it's looking in the web root and triggering this error.

I have a linked field in the table that stores the upload file information. The onclick event for this runs file download java script. Here is the configuration I have for it.File Download.png

Since this is only when downloading a file and the file does download properly but seems to trigger this message by perhaps initially looking in the wrong location I think it has to be something wrong in this section. Any ideas?

I have something the same and don't have any problems. There are only 2 differences.
i made a 'dummy' fieldname that contains the absolute filename (so that there is no foldername) and in Javascriptsevents i have True (see attachment)

                Hi Marc

My settings are the same. I also tried it with the full path in the folder of the down load component. See images of the file download component as well as the project properties. The download button now does nothing, no error code (The same happens local and on web server).
Everything worked until I updated to Build 2373_3862. I am going to try reverting back to a previous update.

Many thanks for all the inputs.

Re: File download does not download all types

Well I tried Marc's suggestion but it didn't really change anything except the error message from my browser(Firefox) now said it "did not recognize the protocol (c). I'm guessing it was looking for a URL and saw the c-drive letter at the start of my absolute filename path?

I went back to my settings that worked with the exception of the 404 error. I tried setting the file not found action to "Do Nothing" but that has no effect. If definitely looks like despite my settings Alpha is looking for the file in the webroot first, not fining it there and triggering the 404 error and then goes to the designated down load folder and finds the file and proceeds on as expected. Not sure what to do with this, The easy answer would be to use the root for my client files, but as I understand it this would not be a secure location so I don't really want to do that.

                  Here is my saveFiles function.

                  Code:
                  function saveFiles as v (e as p)
'This function is called after the file(s) selected in the Upload Files dialog have been uploaded to the server.
'The function is responsible for processing each uploaded file.
'The passed in 'e' object contains these properties

                  dim count as n
'get a count of the number of files that were uploaded
                  count = e.filecount
                  dim i as n
                  dim arr as p

'get the array that contains all of the uploaded files
                  arr = e.filearray

                      Hi Greg,

what i find strange is that your folder (to download from) is usau_uploaded_files and that the error message says that the file in usua is not found?
To me it looks if everything is ok. so sorry but don't know why it is acting that way

Re: File download does not download all types

USAU is the project folder within the webroot that this project is published to. usau_uploaded_files is the folder I designated for users to upload their files too. So even though everything is configured correctly as far as I can see and the actual files are uploaded without issue and downloaded/viewed without issue I think the 404 error is generated from Alpha looking in the webroot initially and not seeing the expected file, but then goes to the location I set in the download parameters and finds it. I'm curious Marc, what build are you using?
