Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

is it possible to set variables if they are "NOT" on a Form ?

Re: is it possible to set variables if they are "NOT" on a Form ?

Hi Tom, I will check this out. You mean how they appear in the Calc Field form list ? That will be different without doubt from the form with the 14 sets of calc fields that work perfectly.

I think so, yes. I mean the Calculated Field list that appears when you open the form in design mode, and press the XY tool on the toolbar.

They are in a completely different order in the problem form. They seem to have been created in this list quite randomly, although they were created at the same time, and in alphabettical order. Should I try to sort this order out Tom ?

Hi Tom, I can now confirm that all calc fields are in the correct logical sequence. (Top to Bottom) Unfortuately there is still no change to the form opening very slowly.

"Almost the same" Is not exactly the same???

It would be a good idea to post the calcs to this forum so these guys can help you a bit further. If you could post both, it would be even better.

I do (as most) some very heavy calcs, but have gone to udf or script to get them done in most cases.

How many records is your form trying to display when opened that it must do these calcs on? Perhaps if you open the form with a filter to reduce the intial records displayed, it will be faster as a result. Or you could run a query before opening the form.

It's a strange one this, as stated in an earlier reply, I have an "almost" identical set of calc fields on another form, and more of them 28 in total being displayed on the form, and that form opens really fast.

                        Possible corrupted form.
Try these calculations on a newly designed form.

Hi G, yeah tried that one. I have speeded up the form opening process to about 4 seconds, by removing a couple more calc fields from the more, but it still not good enough for what I am trying to do here. I will take another look at the calc fields that seem to be causing the slow down later tonight.
                          Thanks again for your input.

Possibly, you could copy all the calcs to a text file and add them in one at a time until you find the one(s) that are causing the slow down.

AGAIN, it could be very helpful to you and easier for others if you copied these calcs fields to this board so errors or slow processes can be identified!
