Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    how to refresh repeating section of a dialog ?

    i have a dialog with a repeating section.
    where the data being continuously/dynamically updated/append

    how or what java codes (on a button) that i can pressed to call for
    a reload of my repeating section, while leaving all other fields as it.

    meaning just reload the repeating container only ?

    I need this as well. Funny things happen when you dynamically populate a repeating section with a data set - and then try to populate it again with a different set entirely.

    Let's say I populate one row of a repeating section. Then, I decide to choose another set that has 12 rows.
    My repeating section will jump from row 1 to 11.

    I just want to reset the section.

      Any solution on this yet? I have been trying to figure out how to refresh a repeating section in a dialog for hours. Seems like there would be a simple solution like Dialog.Refresh, but i guess not.

        you need to write an ajax callback that repopulates the repeating section. the function prototype for the xbasic function that handles an ajax callback describes in some detail how to generate the javascript to populate a repeating section in a dialog.

        if you want to repopulate the entire dialog, rather than just a particular repeating section, then just use the built in action in action javascript to populate a dialog based on the parent record's primary key value.

          Thanks Selwyn, but is there any chance on talking you into explaining in more detail how to repopulate the repeating section?

            I would need to know more details about your particular use case to do anything helpful. This would probably be best handled by a support incident which can be purchased on our web site.

            However, i would first want to know why the build in action an action javascript - 'Populate Controls in a Dialog with data from Tables' did not meet your needs.

              It works fine Selwyn, but i would like for it to remain on the current repeating section record. When it updates the row, it jumps to the first record in the repeating section. Is there a way to make it stay on the current selected row/record it is on?

                Re: how to refresh repeating section of a dialog ?

                before you fire the ajax callback to refresh the data in the dialog capture the active row number in the repeating section using the {dialog.object}.getRepeatingSectionActiveRow() method.
                store that value in a dialog object variable.

                e.g.

                {dialog.object}._myRSActiveRow = {dialog.object}.getRepeatingSectionActiveRow()

                then in the afterPopulateFromTable client side event, check if {dialog.object}._myRSActiveRow exists, and if it does then set the repeating section active row and then delete the variable.

                e.g.

                if(typeof {dialog.object}._myRSActiveRow != 'undefined') {

                {dialog.object}.setRepeatingSectionActiveRow('name of your repeating section',{dialog.object}._myRSActiveRow);
                delete {dialog.object}._myRSActiveRow
                }

                  Re: how to refresh repeating section of a dialog ?

                  Thank you Selwyn, this works, but has one undesrired effect. If the repeating section has an active row selector, then it will highlight more than one row. I would like to only highlight the cureent row that was just saved, but it highlights that one plus the first row at the same time.

                    the technique i describe definitely works correctly as is shown here in this video
                    http://screencast.com/t/MQgYcqR26x

                    without seeing what you have done, it is hard to say why it is now working for you, but i suspect you have made some error somewhere.

                      Thank you Selwyn. It was for sure an error on my part somewhere. I started over and entered what you provided and it works like a charm. don't know what i did wrong to start with, but it is all good now. Thank you for the time you put in to helping me.
