Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Has anyone used the IFRAME control in dialog?

    Hi
This is getting quite frustrating. I am trying to use an IFRAME control in my dialog2, with no success. I did a full search in the wiki, but not one mention of it anywhere...
My problem is how do you talk to the IFRAME, post data to it, etc...?

Jaime: i have not clue, but i'm about to ask the same question in the next few days.
I'm wanting to have credit card information in the iFrame and post it to merchant processing...

    I hope someone answers...

Re: Has anyone used the IFRAME control in dialog?

That's exactly what i am trying to do as well!!!
In my case the scenario is as follows:
      - fill-in order data
      - prepare a list of parameters ( username, password, terminal number, amount to charge, url in case of success, url in case of error and some more params)
      - POST those parameters to some local php/asp/aspx file in an IFRAME - not only i couldn't make it work, i think the Application server does not know how to run neither of those file types
      - assuming i did all the above, i would like to get an 'ok' so i can submit all the data to the db, what url should i give them in case of success so it will talk to the currently running dialog puzzles me...

In conclusion i think i will go to sleep :-)

Re: Has anyone used the IFRAME control in dialog?

this is not really an alpha five question and it has nothing to do specifically with a Dialog. this is a straight forward javascript question and you should be able to google this and get the javascript needed to address elements in an iFrame.

the alpha wiki does not document basic javascript because there is all the doc you could need on the web. the wiki is only intended to document alpha five.

basically you need to get a pointer to the iframe and then set it's src property.

Thanks Selwyn! As always, your help is extremely appreciated.
I was under the impression that if i drop an iframe control in my dialog, i somewhat have the pointer in A5, and some mechanism in place to 'talk' to it somehow...Anyway, learning some Javascript will do nothing but good to me :-)

you do have a pointer to it. or more precisely, you can GET a pointer to it, just like you can get a pointer to any element on a page. but this is not A5 that is giving you the pointer to the IFrame, it is standard Javascript which allows you to get a pointer to any element in the browser's DOM.

the most common way in which you get a pointer to an element in the DOM is by using

                var mypointer = $(elementID);

$() is just a function in the A5 javascript library that is a shortcut for document.getElementById() (which is the native Javascript method).
if the a5 javascript library is loaded (which it would be if you are using the dialog component), the $() beats typing 'document.getElementById()' every time you need a pointer to an element!!
