Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Send EMail action script not available in dialog2?

    In a submit button in my dialog, i wanted to save data to my SQL DB then send a confirmation mail with the new order number, but when trying to add the send email action script, i get an error message "This builder is not available for this component type: Dialog"...
    Any clues as to how to manually send this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Jaime

    Re: Send EMail action script not available in dialog2?

    Jaime,

    I noticed that action script wasn't available as well.
    As a workaround, I added a checkbox (called Email) to my Dialog and in the Server Side Events I call the Email script.

    Code:
    ExecuteServerSideAction("Save Data::Save_Order")

    dim Checked as L
    Checked = e.dataSubmitted.Email

    if rtc.flagRecordWasSaved then
       if Checked = .T. then
          ExecuteServerSideAction("Send E-mail Message::Send_Email")
        else
          e.javascript="alert('Record Save Error. No E-mail Confirmation Will Be Sent')"
       end if
    end if
    Not sure if that's what you need but you might be able to work with it.

      Dear Stephen
      Thank you very much! Seems quite logical.
      The only thing i missed is, I see you send the email with the command ExecuteServerSideAction("Send E-mail Message::Send_Email") , so where do i setup what will the email contain?

        Jaime,

        Easy, just put your mouse cursor on the same line as ExecuteServerSideAction("Send E-mail Message::Send_Email")
        Then, click Action Scripting | Edit Action

        Have a look a videos D22 ... http://news.alphasoftware.com/v11pre...v11.htm#Dialog

            Thanks Chad.
            What i don't understand is, how is it useful to send an email in the onDialogInitialize? What's needed is send an email upon successful submission of all dialog's data...

              Dear Stephen
              Where do i enter this code? Looking at the Server Side Events, i only see onDialogInitialize, onDialogExecute, dialogValidate and afterDialogValidate...

              Thanks

                Server-Side Events --> AfterDialogValidate

                As Chad pointed out, use the Action Scripting there to add the Save Submitted Data & Send Email functions.
                The video explains this all.

                    Ok, all up and running thanks to you guys!
                    How do i close the dialog after the email has been sent? I noticed in the Send EMail action scripting, in the Client-Side events, an 'After message sent' property where i can enter some JavaScript, what should i put there to have the dialog close itself?

                    Thanks

                      The way I do this is in the Action Scripting properties of ExecuteServerSideAction("Save Data::Save_Order").
                      Under Save Data you have the option to Redirect To Another Page ... I use this to go back to my home page after saving.

                      There may be a way to close the Dialog using javascript but I'm not aware how to do that.
