    Default Linked Drop Down Menus

    Hi All

I'm building a CRM for an Appliance repair company.

For this CRM I require each recorded customer interaction to have a "Wrap Up Code". This consists of 3 drop down menus for the CSR to identify the cause for the call. The 1st drop down menu will provide the list of brands we work with. The 2nd menu will list the compartments of the unit specific to the brand that was selected in the 1st menu. The 3rd menu will then list the components of the compartment specified in the 2nd menu. So an example of a wrap up code could be 1st Menu: Brand X - 2nd Menu: Freezer - 3rd Menu: Freezer Drawer.

What is the best way to build these fields and how can i connect them so that each selection in the 1st menu affects the possible results in the 2nd and 3rd menu?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I believe Alpha calls them lookups. You can define them in the table field rules or in the control type selected for field object on a form.

Since you want the second filtered on the first and the third filtered on the second I suggest you use the control type on a form option. You would filter the choices for the second and third in the Choices tab of the control definition genie.

    Hi Stan

    Thanks for your example!

I've tried to recreate your example using the same naming convention as my database, but for some reason it is not working.

I think the problem is my coding.

Would you mind taking a look at it for me?

The variables need to be declared for the form. The onchange events for vrp1 and vrp2 are coded to set the variables. The watch expression is the form object.

Glad to help. What was your previous development tool of choice?

I have no real development experience to speak of. I've done some work with Access.

The company I work for has a really old Dos based CRM. I'm so sick of working with it that I've decided to build a new one.
