Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How do I populate v.11 dialog repeating sections

    Let's say I have a quote that I want to turn into an invoice, and I am using a v.11 dialog box to create the invoice.
    The quote exists with a header and quote lines, and the invoice has a header and invoice lines.
    Say the quote is for building three widgets for $10, $15 and $20 respectively.
    The issue seems to be that I cannot use a variable to loop through the data and place "widget1" in item in row 1, $10 in the price in row 1, widget2 in item in row 2, $20 in the price in row 2, etc.

    I cannot figure out how to pre-populate the repeating section in the dialog.
    I can retrieve the data from the SQL server, but cannot figure out how to use the Javascript to populate the controls.

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Re: How do I populate v.11 dialog repeating sections

    Jay, I created something today that may be what you are referring to, if i understand you correctly.
    In my repeating section, the first field is "Item", when an item is selected, it looks at the Products table and fils the other fields in the repeating section with the associated values, such as "Price" per item, "Item ID Number" and so on. I did this with the "Lookup and Fill In Fields"action scripting.

      Take a look at the million lines of comments in the onDialogInitialize of your dialog, they show the exact Javascript to populate many controls, including repeating sections, using the dialog populate()

        JR (howdy, neighbor) and Jamie:
        First, thanks for responding.
        I want the repeating section to pre-populate on the onDialogInitialize event without the user having to put any info in. The Quote number can be a session variable, so I know what records to grab, I just cannot figure out how to roll through the javascript and make the line numbers for the items change with each record. For example, this is from the help in the event:

        '_d['E:2'] = 'beta'; //set the value of a control called 'E' in the 2nd Repeating Section row
        '_d['G:6'] = ['Red','Green']; //set the value of a checkbox called 'G' in the 6th Repeating Section row to 'Red' and 'Green'
        and also:
        'j.quantity_a5instance1 = "2"
        'dim j.colorchoices_a5instance2[3] as c
        'j.colorchoices_a5instance2[1] = "Red"
        'j.colorchoices_a5instance2[2] = "Blue"
        What I am looking for is a way to make the red numbers above able to be changed with each row in the repeating section.
        If I have three items I want to put into my invoice from my quote, I have to be able to make the row numbers change as my loop progresses.

        Thanks.

          Ah, i see...in VFP that was done using the extraordinary & macro substitution. In xBasic i'm clueless :-)

            Re: How do I populate v.11 dialog repeating sections

            So, after a little head banging (which has drastically improved my looks), I believe that I have solved this problem.
            I used the following:
            row_values = "_d['PO_Number:'+1] = 'alpha';_d['PO_Number:'+2] = 'beta';_d['PO_Number:'+3] = 'gamma';"
            dim js as c
            js = <<%txt%
            var rows = 5;
            var setFocusToFirst = true;
            var nullOutExistingData = false;
            var repeatingSectionId = 'CONTAINER_1';
            {dialog.object}._setRepeatingSectionRowCount(repeatingSectionId,rows,setFocusToFirst,nullOutExistingData);
            var _d = {};
            _d['reference_number'] = 'alpha'; //set the value of a control called 'reference_number'
            %txt%
            js = js+row_values+crlf()+<<%txt1%
            //_d['PO_Number:'+i] = 'beta'; //set the value of a control called 'E' in the 2nd Repeating Section row
            _d['G:6'] = ['Red','Green']; //set the value of a checkbox called 'G' in the 6th Repeating Section row to 'Red' and 'Green'
            {dialog.object}.prepare();
            {dialog.object}.populate(_d);
            {dialog.object}.refreshClientSideComputations();
            %txt1%

            'debug(1)

            'Now, emit the Javascript...
            e.javascript = js
            I can create the text string row_values from the data derived from the SQL lines of the quote. This solves the issue (although perhaps this could be made a bit easier, hint, hint).

              Oh, I see now Jay. I was on a different mindset. I'm not much help on this one.
              Neighbor is right, I get out your way quite a bit.
