Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Was there a problem with the early V11 app files provided by Alpha in an email link?

Hi, I am trying to install A5V11 developer, but every time I try to run the downloaded alpha file from their email order confirmation link it tells me that it is not a valid Win32 application.
Does anyone have an idea how I can overcome this?

    Thanks,

    Paul

If you have a licence key, download a trial version and enter the key Paul.
If you are using the UK site, you may have issues. Others have, so download the trial - it's the full application.

Apologies to anyone I haven't managed to upset yet.
You are held in a queue and I will get to you soon.

      Hi Ted,

I've already tried that. Not on my normal PC but on my file server which is Win 2008 64bit - but same result. Have sent a reply to Alpha but they have not replied yet. I'll try the trial version download on my XP machine and see if I get the same error as before.

      Thanks for the reply.

Just downloading it again now. It says it is 102mb. Alpha replied and said it must have been corrupted in the transfer. I am not so sure but I'll try again once downloaded.

          Thanks,

Here is the trial link they emailed me:

I don't know if it is UK or US

I think this is the US site.
Do you use FDM to download by the way? It speeds things up no end here in the back of beyond. And it is restartable if the link drops out.

The thing is Ted, I have never had problems downloading before from Alpha links.
The last attempt downloaded OK but when I right click on it to try and copy the file for dropbox I get the attached error message.
                  I am baffled.Screenshot - 13_03_2012 , 15_15_56.jpg

This is a new one on me.
Where are you tring to move it to?
Is the disk full (you will have checked that)
Can you move it anwhere else or is it just the Server?
                    Compatability issue?
Is the version you have meant to work via a server?

                      Hi Ted,
No disk space issue on my PC
I am just trying to install a second license on our server for remote desktop connection when needed.
The error shown above is on my local PC not the server.
I was hoping to copy the file to dropbox and get it on to the server that way.
                      I'll keep you posted.

Just managed to download the trial version and run it on my server.

                          So, go figure.

Still concerned about the PC error. Will ask Alpha if they have any ideas. Thanks for your input Ted.

OK, installed the Alpha software and .NET eventually, tried to run a system that I have working here on the local PC with no problems. The autoexec ran,the log on screen came up and then after submitting the log in details Alpha fell over. The error displayed is one I've never seen before. I am not sure if it is an Alpha error message or an MS error message.

Any help would be much appreciated.
