Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    2 timer codes for ontimer event are not working, they do not fire.

    The following codes fail to execute or fire at the given time.
    This code is in the ONTIMER event of a form that is kept open.
    I do have each code in separate forms.

    For an email process to take place:

    If day(date())<> "sunday"
    For i=1 to 86400
    If time("0h",now()) = "14"
    'Run script locally (using local variables): EmailScript
    script_play_local("EmailScript")
    sleep(.9999999)
    end if
    Next i
    end if

    ---------------------------
    For a report to take place:

    If day(date())<> "sunday"
    For i=1 to 86400
    If time("0h",now()) = "14"
    query.filter = ""
    query.order = ""
    Report.Print("Invoice1",query.filter,query.order)
    sleep(.9999999)
    end if
    Next i
    end if

    Even if I take the loop of day(date, do not fire.
    What is wrong?

    Re: 2 timer codes for ontimer event are not working, they do not fire.

    Hi Ron,

    There is a lot wrong here.

    First thing, day(date()) returns a day number of the month, not a weekday name. This would cause a code error, terminating the executrion of the code right there. A better code, would be
    IF dow(date())<>0
    or
    IF cdow(date())<>"sunday"

    And why are you looping 86400 times? Your form's timer interval setting should be 1 second (or some non-zero value maybe 1800 seconds (.5 hours), otherwise, assuming the timer event is firing (and it is probably not if set to null or 0), you are looping in the timer code waiting for the time to arrive, but the timer event will not start again till the first code is finished, which will take a whole day with the sleep() function.

    When 2pm does arrives, the code will run the email or report, then repeat it every timer interval until 3pm. If timer interval is set to 1 second, it will send the email/report out 3600 times! Is that what you want?

    Here is a more workable piece of code.

    Code:
    ' If not previously set, firsttime will have a null value
    dim shared firsttime as c
    IF dow(date())<>0
    	If time("0h",now()) = "14"
    		IF firsttime=="1"
    			firsttime="1"
    			'Run script locally (using local variables): EmailScript
    			script_play_local("EmailScript")
    		END IF
    	ELSE
    		firsttime=""
    	END IF
    END IF

      Thanks for the response Mr. Perlow.
      Very nice explantion/breakdown of the wrong code.
      Correct I only want to run the scripts once.
      I did used your sample code in both and they do not fire.
      I used different types of timing for testing.
      I must be missing something.
      Attached is a sample of the Db.
      The 2 forms open with the main menu.

        Hi Ron,

        I opened your timer form in design mode. The timer interval in the form's properties is 0. As I said, it will not fire if 0 or null. Change it to a number greater than 0.

          Sorry to report that after changing the timer interval, still do not work.
          I have open and design many forms. This is the first time I notice the timer interval field.
          So when it was mentioned before, I had no clue of it.
          As I read your response, I went back to properties of the forms and there it was in the front page.
          I did change it to 0.01 to 1 to 60 to 600 and 86400 and the forms did not trigger.
          I tried different timing and no results

          I have ver 11 latest patch and windows 7 ult.

          Is there anything else is preventing the firing of this forms actions?

            I changed it to 10, and it fires. If you want to see it fire, place the following line in the 1st line of the timer event code

            statusbar.Set_Text("Timer Event at "+time())

            As to your other code that you are calling, there could be mistakes in there, but that's another issue. The code as given will work, except I didn't debug it. One small mistake, but easily found if you learn to use the debugger.

            Code:
            statusbar.Set_Text("Timer Event at "+time())
            ' If not previously set, firsttime will have a null value
            dim shared firsttime as c
            IF dow(date())<>0
            	If time("0h",now()) = "14"
            		[B]IF firsttime==""[/B]
            			firsttime="1"
            			'Run script locally (using local variables): EmailScript
            			script_play_local("EmailScript")
            		END IF
            	ELSE
            		firsttime=""
            	END IF
            END IF

              The Code works very well. I was able to activate both of them.

              Many Thanks, great help.
