Hi,
I have a question regarding the dropdown box which can be placed on the v11 web dialog component.
If I set the available choices of a dropdownbox component to an AlphaADO connection string, then choose a table, I am given the choice of a field to display and (optionally) a field to store into the variable. In the "expert" mode, however, you have the option to create a custom Select statement.
I am hoping to use this select statement to be able to display more than one field as the display, while still returning a single field.
In my case, I have a table showing property owners which has, among other fields, CustID, Lastname, Firstname fields. I am trying to use a SQL Select statement similar to the following:
"Select (CustID + ' ' + Lastname +', '+Firstname) as Customer from Table order by lastname"
The problem is that whenever I attempt to get anything other than a single field, the query simply returns a zero for the result. So the result of my select statement above would be a column called 'Customer' whose values are all '0'. I get the same result if I attempt to get for example the Lastname and Firstname combined.
The query works fine if I select only a single field.
Does anyone know if this is a limitation of the component, or if there is a way to accomplish this?
I really need to display more than a single field in this dropdown if the user is going to be able to choose the appropriate record to use, since there easily could be multiple customers with the same lastname, and I want the user to be able to select the correct one.
Any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
