Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Registry sub-Key "remeber_name"

v8 running under Windows 7.
The aforementioned sub-key does not exist in the registry, does it?
Does it exist by another name?
Thanks

Re: Registry sub-Key "remeber_name"

There is no references to "remeber_name". However, if you are referring to the "remember_name" feature of an XDialog, then it is stored in a registry key that has the name of the XDialog title at the end of the key.

I forgot, the sticky option I believe uses the title name, otherwise, it goes to the name given after the = sign. Do a regedit search with a unique name, and you should find it. Depending on what Alpha Five registry command you use, some get only Alpha Software sections of the registry.

Actually, remember is the one that takes the name, but I can't find it anywhere in the registry.
I could find the sticky_window and its parameters in the registry seems what is being used even with remember!
Changing it, doesn't make any difference though!
Thanks for responding.

Re: Registry sub-Key "remeber_name"

Using {position=remember=registryname} in an Xdialog saves the current position when the dialog box is closed in a registry key like

HKEY_USERS\bunch of numbers that are machine specific\Software\Alpha Software\Alpha Five 8.0\xdialog.A5_notepad.pos

The results can be gotten by

dim ptr as p
' A property value must be assigned for the pointer to be considered a property pointer
dim ptr.dummy as c

?REGISTRY.LOAD_SETTINGS("xdialog.registryname.pos",ptr)
= <No data returned>
?ptr
= dummy = ""
x = 405
y = 484

Re: Registry sub-Key "remeber_name"

I tried that with no success and decided to do away with {position=remember} and used an alternative way to remember the position which worked just fine.
Then I went back to {position=remember} to see why it didn't work and after a little bit of testing I found out the following:
1-You need to put the name in quotations
2-You need to drag the box to the desired position
It works that way.
I checked the registry:
Still nothing under remember and nothing under xdialog.A5_notepad.pos , but it is working now.

Not true. The 1st space or special character in the name portion (after the {position=remember= ) will delimit the name that is used (in other words, it is stored under the name up to the 1st delimiter). If you use quotations, it will consider it a null string name. So all names starting with a quote are stored in the same place. Unfortunately, I can't determine where Alpha stores the null value info.

However, all those with characters in them are stored in the name given (up to the 1st space or special character) as described before in the registry.

I don't know what special characters are significant, but space and " are definitely delimiters.

It remembers the position when XDialog box is closed, not before, so dragging it changes nothing till closed.

That's was just an example using a dialog with the name to store of A5_notepad.

All the others are there for me, with version 8 (and any other version too).

If, on the other hand you are trying to move the XDialog by code, there is a function for that, however, it has a small bug in it, but is mostly usable. If you are trying to determine it's current position, that is a much more difficult (not trivial) problem, and one I've solved (although not as nicely as I want) for my CSDA Screen Capture utility.

Tried it without quotation, won't work. With quotations it remembers the position!
It is working now with the quotations as well as with a a small script I wrote to reposition it.
Thanks
