Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Row count of grid in javascript

    Is there a function or method to get the count of the rows in a grid in a javascript function?

    Re: Row count of grid in javascript

    I searched my notes I make for myself and found the info below about counting rows. I think some of it might help you.

    Per Selwyn from this thread: http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...basic-function

    GETTING COUNT VIA JAVASCRIPT:
    When a Grid is executed, (either the initial load, or when any type of search, or page navigation is done), the server obviously knows how many records are in the Grid and it sends that information back to the browser where it is stored in the Grid Object. This mean that any Javascript code you execute can find out how many records are in the current query by reading the value of the {grid.object}._rowsInGrid property.

    GETTING COUNT VIA XBASIC CALLBACK:
    When any callback is made to the server, the information is sent back to the server. It is in the __si (short for state info) object that you will see as part of every callback.

    If you put a debug(1) into your Xbasic function that handles an ajax callback, then run the Grid in Working Preview, then click the button that does the callback, the debugger will open, and you will be able to see that the 'e' object has an e.__si object and inside that you will see:

    e.__si.RecordCount
    which has a count of the current number of records in the grid query.

    SAMPLE XBASIC FUNCTION Carol wrote to test this e property:
    ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
    function TestGetRecordCount as c (e as p)

    dim rcrdcount as N
    rcrdcount = e.__si.RecordCount

    dim msg as c
    msg = "The record count is " + rcrdcount
    msg = js_escape(msg)
    dim jscmd as c
    jscmd = "alert('" + msg + "');"
    TestGetRecordCount = jscmd

    end function
    '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''

      Re: Row count of grid in javascript

      In order to get the number of records of a grid in javascript, you might also use this method : {grid.object}._getGridVariables(grid,detailView); and use the recordsInGrid property
      You will find additional information in the available Grids methods description, there are other very useful properties.

        Re: Row count of grid in javascript

        Do you want the count of records returned, which could create several pages in a tabular grid, or the count of displayed rows in a grid? E.g. The grid is set to display 10 rows, but there are only 3 records / rows of data. Or, there are 3 pages of the Grid, the first 2 with 10 rows and the last page with 5 rows.

          Thank you Carol and Joel. David, I am trying to determine the number of rows in the grid so that I can set focus to the newly entered row after I do a grid submit in the onChange event of a field. The row number returns -1 if I capture it in the onChange event of the new record row which is normal. After the submit is complete I am trying to reset the focus to this row which will now have a new row number. For ex if there are 5 rows displayed the rows are 1,2,3,4, -1. I enter data in the new row and submit then I have 1,2,3,4,5, -1 I want to set the focus to 5.

            Re: Row count of grid in javascript

            EDIT:

            Yes, there is a Javascript method... I knew I'd seen it... and as recent as yesterday as well... sheesh. This is from the Client side setFocus Grid Method

            Code:
            //Set focus to row 3;
            GRID1_GridObj.setFocus(3);
            //Set focus to the last row in the Grid (not including new record rows).
            var rowNum = GRID1_GridObj._rowsInGrid;
            GRID1_GridObj.setFocus(rowNum);

            I'm not sure if there's a built-in Javascript method of getting the rows, but there are a couple of ways. The first one is Javascript only and basically harvests a column then counts it. The only drawback is that you need to choose a column that definitely has data in each row.

            Code:
            var prodStr = {Grid.Object}.harvestColumn('PRODID');

            var prodArray = new Array();
            prodArray = prodStr.split(',');

            prodArray = prodArray.filter(function(val) {
            	return !(val === '' || typeof val == 'undefined' || val === null);
            });

            var lenArray = parseInt(prodArray.length);

            alert(lenArray);
            The other way involves an Ajax callback...

            Code:
            e.rtc.actualGridRowCount
            holds the current page row count.

              Re: Row count of grid in javascript

              David, Thank you so much. It works perfectly.

              Here is what I am doing.

              In a textbox lookup Edit-combo list field I select a value from the list.
              In the onchange event I am setting a global javascript variable to true. I know this is not the recommended way as per Bob Moore. I will fix this as soon as I get a chance.
              Code:
              {grid.Object}.submitGridPartRow({Grid.RowNumber});

              if ({Grid.RowNumber} == -1)
              {
              	glEditingNewRow = true;
              }
              In the afterAjaxCallbckComplete event I am using the code you provided as
              Code:
              if (glEditingNewRow)
              {
              	var rowNum = GRID1_GridObj._rowsInGrid;
              	GRID1_GridObj.setFocus(rowNum);
              	glEditingNewRow= false;
              }
              I was concerned about the javascript asynchronous timing so I put the set focus code in the afterAjaxCallbckComplete event.

              When I want to add a record to this tabular updateable grid I just make a selection from the list and bingo a new record is added and thanks to you I am returned to the one I was editing. Of course a couple of the other fields have code to submit the grid in the onchange event as well. No submit button to press.

                  Re: Row count of grid in javascript

                  I was able to simplify the code for this process.

                  In a textbox lookup Edit-combo list OnChange event
                  Code:
                  {grid.Object}.submitGridPartRow({Grid.RowNumber});
                  In the afterAjaxCallbckComplete event.
                  Code:
                  var rowNum = {Grid.Object}._selectedRow;
                  if (rowNum == -1)
                  {
                  	var rowNum = GRID1_GridObj._rowsInGrid;
                  	GRID1_GridObj.setFocus(rowNum);
                  }

                      Hi,

                      your method for selecting the last entry in a grid works fine if one only has one page. I have multiple pages each containing 50 rows. when I use
                      Code:
                      var rowNum = GRID1_GridObj._rowsInGrid;
                      I always get 50 as row number as the first page shows a full 50 records.
                      how can I focus on the last entry on the last page?
                      any tips?
                      Thank you!

                          //Navigate to the last page
                          {grid.Object}.pageNavigate('last');
